Golf GT TDi Problems after I took it into garage

Cant remember the exact details, but somewhere under the drivers side wing, there are a couple of houses that connect to plastic pipes coming off the intercooler. Its very easy for these hoses to drop off when you take off engine mounts/jack up the engine. With rough handling, the plastic...

    Vauxhall 40,000 mile service.

How long ago was the 40k service done? A couple of years ago(or less), Vauxhall cut the timing belt intervals in half due to a high number of failures on certain models. 100k intervals became 50k, 80k became 40k and so on, so it may not have been done then for that reason. Or as...

Anyone recommend a good place to buy discs and pads?

If you intend to fit them yourself, check out the vauxhall dealer prices first. Might just be the dealer in my area, but retail prices are: Front brake kit(disks and pads): £65.00 + vat Rear brake kit(disks and pads): £65.50 + vat Rear shoes (if needed): £65.50 + vat (unlikely to need...

    How good are Falken ZE-512's?

Try to get hold of some Yokohama A539's. My friend has them on his modded fiesta (around 150bhp) and it sticks to the road like glue, even under heavy acceleration, and on wet roads. Same size that you are looking for as well, so definately know they are available in 185/60/13. Dont think...

    8800 Ultra in late May

If those speeds are correct, $900 (approx £450 ) isnt that bad price wise. Consider that Overclockers sell the water cooled BFG 8800GTX for a higher price than that, and those cards have lower clock speeds. Just need to make sure than Nvidia deliver on the availability. :)

Quick Q: garage has car, parts deteriate with time - who pays?

Sounds like he is trying to make a bit of extra money from this. The following may be of use to you. 1) Ask to see the old front disks. Most small garages will have these lying around for a couple of days until they have a scrap collection. Surface corrosion is normal if the car has been...

    Oblivion Peformance So Far

Yes they do. MSAA (Multi Sample Anti Aliasing) has been around on PC since the Geforce 3/4 series. However, only the latest ATI cards can do HDR+MSAA at the moment. Althought it isnt perfect, IIRC its done in a sort of hackish fashion by utilising the pixel shaders to allow max 4xMSAA+HDR...

    7900 gtx or x1900 xtx

Thats probably because the temps and fan noise of the 6800 Ultra were very similar to the competing ATI product. (X800-XTPE) Power requirments were not that different either. Where is the argument? And despite what some of the pro ATI peeps are saying, the X1900XTX is one loud...

    ATI Introduces FireGL V7350

Its not that impressive really. Its just an R520 with a gig of memory onboard. Even the clocks are conservative, at 600/1300. Should give the Quadro 4500 a run for its money though if ATI beat their workstation driver team with a big enough stick. :)

    1Gb memory in 7900GTX

Sorry, didnt mean to direct that remark at you specifically. Should have added a comment to that effect. :)

    1Gb memory in 7900GTX

And some will say its pointless, cause they know that they cant afford it..... ;) Seriously though, didn't Tim Sweeney say something about UT2007 needing a 1Gb card to run at full detail. Think it was down to the size of the maps and texture complexity. Look at the boost that 512Mb cards...

    XFX 6800GS XXX Power Warning

What PSU are you using? I used to have the same problem with a 6800GT and a temporary (rubbish) q-tec 550w PSU. Popped a better one in, and it went way past Ultra speeds. :)

    AGP

That would make sense, if you didnt have to figure in the price of a new processor and better memory to go with the new board. That takes the total up by close to another £150 even if you go for lower spec stuff.

    XFX 6800GS XXX Power Warning

Make sure that you are giving the graphics card its own power cable with nothing else sharing. If the cable you are using has 2 molex connectors, and you have 1 plugged into the graphics card, and 1 plugged into a hard drive etc, it can cause problems. Also depends on what else you have...

    ATI crashing

There was a thread a few weeks ago where someone had a similar problem. It turned out that the guy needed to plug in the asus EZPlug connector located at the bottom of the motherboard, nearest the standard PCI slots. Do you have one of these molex sockets on your motherboard? If so, have you...

How well do you think this relates true performance?

Sometimes companies get things wrong when they are trying to balance the transistor budget for new hardware they are developing. Nvidia were crucified when 3Dmark03 came out, for their lower quality PS2 support. The fx5900 ultra without driver hacks scored much lower than a radeon 9700/9800...

Looking at the results on page 7 of this link: http://www.guru3d.com/article/gamereviews/313/ The X1600xt results are a little odd. When you consider how poorly this card compares to a 6800GT in pretty much any game, yet it is nipping at the heels of the GT here. When you also consider...
