    BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Nice to see Plusnet getting in on the cheaper Gb action. £41 a month and a one off £5 for a static IP.

Recommend me a provider for Unlimited 4G rural broadband please

Just be sure to read the small print. All you can eat data on mobile often comes with a data cap, if you exceed it once it's not normally an issue, multiple overtures can result in being cut off. Not the end of the world as you rebuy the same plan but worth checking on.

    Advice on coworker's smell

I literally have a fan on my desk at full bore.

    Advice on coworker's smell

Not a great subject but what's the best way I can advise one of my guys that they are quite pungent? They are a very heavy smoker and I will go out on a limb and say the personal hygiene likely isn't of the highest standards. It doesn't warrant a whole HR circus but I am the line manager for...

    1.2Gbps FTTP Router Recommendation

Just custom build a nice little unit, get the spec you want, with power draw that's reasonable and you can run a decent firewall application on.

Wireless VLANs for SSIDs on multiple Unifi Access Points

Yes. You are tagging traffic as it enters your network via WiFi so that traffic on that SSId is "wrapped" in VLAN tag. You have then tagged the switch port with the VLAN tag so your AP is effectively plugging into that VLAN. You haven't set up any network services for that VLAN in your...

    BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I'm shortly changing work so will have to pick a new provider. Currently paying £25 for BTOR Gb with my employer but I will have to migrate as I leave. Who do I go for? Zen who I am currently backboned by? Aquiss? BTW? I don't "need" a static IP any more although a nice to have and preference...

    Remove openreach ONT from wall

My OR engineer didn't screw the screws in quite far enough so the box had play. He hadn't started the van before I'd pulled it off and turned the screws in for the super "stusfying" friction fit.

    Zyxel nwa 50 dropout issues

Is FW up to date? I have 4 of these at home and the only time I've had an issue is when firmware was not up to date on 1 of them.

*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

No not at all. It's an available option on most DHCP servers and passes a hex code to client devices. UniFi equipment looks for option 43 and then will use the supplied IP (in hex format) for it's inform. Really neat way of doing it.

DHCP option 43 and point to anything you want. Redirect not needed.

Are the AC-LR's still worth having? I just found 2 in a box in the attic.

Unraid NAS - auto backup share to external USB

The magic button you had on your Synology was just a pretty front end for doing more or less what the Unraid link you've posted will do. It s just a case of putting an rsync line into the scripts and then setting it when to run. I do similar with my main share to my backups although that's an...

    Stop that porn!

Setup kids VLAN. Point kids VLAN at filtered DNS servers Use NAT to redirect any DNS not pointed at filtered DNS to go to filtered DNS. Then they can set what they want, it'll still go to what you point it at.

Getting a Soundblaster a good idea?

Incredibly well. A decent stereo headset will provide the surround effect. Getting your head around 2.0 providing 7.1 is a stretch but I cna only reccommend to test some if you can.

    Is Zen still good.

I am with Zen and haven't eperienced any of the problems others on here have. I'm not On-Net but am aware of some of the problems they are supposed to have had. I do know they are planning some more network upgrades over the coming months which will hopefully alleviate some of the current peak...
