I went from 6970 crossfire to 7950 (just one to start with ) you will find a massive difference. A good 7950 overclocked is as fast if not faster than your 6990.

I cant see it being conductive, when I removed the stock coolers to fit waterblocks one of the cards had enough tim on to do about 3 cards, all the little chips around the outside were covered in the stuff.

Crossfire 6950 is about on par with 1 7950
