At wits end with Asus P5VD2MX and Vista

Thanks for the advice. I checked all of that. In the end I have rolled back to MCE 2005 and it's like lightning. Guess I'll wait to get a new GFX, sound card and more memory before trying Vista.

At wits end with Asus P5VD2MX and Vista

I should add apart from the video/sound problem - it seems quite quick.

At wits end with Asus P5VD2MX and Vista

I did check the event viewer. Nothing of note in there highlighting any driver errors. On Vista 32 bit am currently streaming from Google Video. Video is stuttering but Memory at 42% and CPU at 01%. "On a serious note, it could just be that the drivers are not optimised for Vista, I am...

At wits end with Asus P5VD2MX and Vista

I have the following machine: Asus P5VD2MX Intel Dual Core 2160 1Gb RAM (Dual Core Pack from OCUK) Bios is 1016 I am using the onboard graphics and onboard sound. I noticed after "upgrading" from Windows MCE 2005 to Vista 64 bit that windows seemed quick but when clicked on maximise the...

Catalyst 7.10 and old 9600 Pro

I've been using Catalyst Drivers for ever now, and had been using 7.8 drivers for things like HL2 and Portal (which is what I mainly play) on my trusty old AGP based 128Mb Sapphire 9600 Pro. I noticed there were some new drivers out (7.10) and installed them and lost all my Direct3D. Have...

Widescreen 1440x900 and WINXP/Old Graphics Cards...

I worried over nothing. The monitor and card picked up each other and its running in 1440x900 no problems with my 9600 Pro. It looks lovely in native resolution, however my wife was on the computer and I came in and she had reduced the resolution  and had took it out of native...

    Misty Problem, X1950XT

I've seen this before, but normally it's an application setting thats gone wrong rather than just getting it with a driver install. Has any gamma settings been changed with the new drivers? The gamma could have been increased which would increase the level of white in everything.

Widescreen 1440x900 and WINXP/Old Graphics Cards...

Picked up a nice new monitor today (LG W198WA) which has the added bonus of a TV tuner and loads of inputs. Been at work toda and figured to test it out with my laptop (Toshiba Tecra M2) which has a Geforce FX Go5200. This was plugged in the analog connection. Even with a modified...

    Which LCD?

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my old breaking CRT for an LCD. I'm on a budget of up to £150 (including the VAT!). I've got limited space for the flat screen. My old Sony monitor was 18" wide (45.72cm) - and surprisingly only had a 16" screen! I've been looking at LG and a cheaper make from a...

ASUS P5VD2MX and Serial ATA DVD Writer

Resolved. Actually it was "installer error" (hanging head in shame) :o When I'd plugged the other cables into my motherboard it had only slightly pulled the SATA interface cable out from the DVD writer at the top. Plugged it tightly in and rebooted and it was spotted straight away. Have...

ASUS P5VD2MX and Serial ATA DVD Writer

Why on earth would a supplier release a drive not on the Vista HCL? I've seen other threads where people have it working with Vista. My problem is that the BIOS simply doesn't see it (or show it as a boot option).

ASUS P5VD2MX and Serial ATA DVD Writer

Hi, Am just putting all my new machine together. It boots from the hard disk (runs up the older Windows XP installation!), but fails to boot from (or even see) the DVD Writer. CPU is a dual core E2160. Case is an Antec NSK4400. The Motherboard is a ASUS P5VD2-MX. The DVD Writer...

    Microsoft Natural® Ergonomic Desktop 7000... woo-hoo!

I can agree with your comments. I write technical documents at work (not the most exciting job but hey...) and recently was given a Microsoft Natural Keyboard for all that typing. I can rate it too. Also, the usual gaming keys (wasd) seem really accessible, so may have to take it home and...

Quietest of the quiet:-CPU fans, PSU fans, case fans

I would highly recommend the Zalman cooler for your CPU (if you want air cooling). I can hardly hear mine. Depending on machine load if you have a low heat (watts) CPU and aren't overclocking or doing much with graphics cards then you can get hold of passive power supply units like the...

Basic MOBO/RAM/CPU combo with onboard VGA

Thanks for all the replies! Have told them the options and they're going to go for it. Excellent. :D Have got all versions of Vista right up to Ultimate. Think Ultimate is a bit overkill for her but Home Premium looks good. Have to check software requirements first as my brother...

Basic MOBO/RAM/CPU combo with onboard VGA

Thanks. Noticed you added the power supply on there too. Think the current one will cope but will put this to her to see if she's happy with it. It should last a few good years on that for browsing. Does this handle Vista (obviously not with all the bells and whistles from the user...

Basic MOBO/RAM/CPU combo with onboard VGA

Hi, I'm building a cheap Internet browsing machine for a relative (possibly to run Vista) but most probably XP. Their old Pentium 3 machine that they have is finally dying. I'm not bothered about running the latest games on it so am looking at onboard VGA options. (I've seen that some...

    BT Vision

Anyone have the BT Vision package? Just wondered what people thought of it before I decide whether to sign up or not. What's the box like? Can't get cable down my street (cul-de-sac - company said it would be too expensive to dig up for the number of houses) :( so am looking at either Sky+...
