Have I just lost my dream job?

Poppy seeds can cause a false positive too. Lab will be able to clarify.

Garden cabling - trunking or similar?

There aren't regs for low voltage lighting.

    Storage...

I can't say i've ever had issues. I have a partner I go through who have a bunch of EMC certified people who can advise and spec solutions. The only time they generally go back to EMC is when I say "How much?! That's no good, I'll have to buy Dell instead".;) to get a pricing request.

Why not look at EMC VNXe3200? We got 17TB usable for less than your budget.

    Are you thinking of RAID10

    RAID 6 vs 50

I'd go for raid 6 if write performance isnt a huge issue (which it sounds like it's not). It's considered unwise to run raid 5 with anything over 1 TB, rebuild times can leave you very vulnerable to a second drive failure...

Why do you need pure flash? Unless you have crazy IO requirements, it's just willy waving.

48 Port Gigabit Small Business Switch - Thoughts?

I've never understood people saying netgear switches are no good. I guess its fashionable. We use/used them at many sites and have found them very reliable - I cant recall one ever failing. Re HP: The 1910v-48g is a great switch. Not impressed with the 1810s though.

    VPN Between UK and China

We have two sites in China. Beijing and Shanhgai. We use Cisco DMVPN to link them with the rest of the world using (generally) 2911 routers Most of the time it works however we do occasionally see the odd bit of packet loss, or the tunnels dropping for a a few seconds or longer. Longer...

    Complete DR Solution

Look at veeam backup and replication. Obviously this works only for virtual stuff and I think you'll struggle with that small a pipe. You need (as a business) to review the risk, define critical applications and servers, define the maximum down time you can live with and use that as a...

    *** The Official BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 Thread ***

I've had my z10 since the day it came out. Took a little getting used to but not too long. I have to say I love the phone. It's fast, responsive has a great browser and it just fits perfectly in the hand - way better than the ergonomically dreadful samsung S2/3. Its a company phone and...

    *** The Official BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 Thread ***

z10 is a delight. Had no issues at all with active sync and it's now happily running with BES10 (BDS) which was a piece of cake to install.

    VPN and China

Weird this. We have two offices out there (Beijing and Shanghai) and we can access them fine (well, as good as normal - drops are common as is unexplained packet loss). We're using Cisco DMVPN.

SANs - where are people spending their budget?

Another vote for EMC from me. I have CX3, CX4 and now VNX SANS. The VNX is a lovely bit of kit and simplicity itself to manage. I cant understand how you could complain about support. I have found EMC support to be awesome to the point of being woken up by them in the middle of the night...

    VM issues. [evening of 17th]

We lost our gigabit connection for about an hour. I'd previously opened a support ticket as they were having latency issues most of the day at telehouse. They phoned me and I was told the issue was failure of the cooling system that cooled a core switch system which resulted in the kit...
