Road to Rotary: Japan to France in an RX7

It's a cool idea. If it was a YouTube series I'd definitely be interested in watching it unfold. Worth remembering that your bank card likely won't work in Russia. If you're carrying cash, keep 2 wallets on you: one with the real money in, and one with only bribe money and no more. Then if you...

Should I buy a Toyota Yaris hybrid (2020-present)?

I owned an Avensis and now I have a corolla hybrid. With regards to the warranty, the Avensis needed work done on it, and Toyota were on it in a flash. Corolla has been golden so far, but I only bought it at the end of last year. I legitimately have no concerns about the warranty should...

What is the best car you've ever owned and a brief reason why?

My FN2 Civic Type R. I traded in an extraordinary rough 350Z for it which leaked and burnt oil everywhere it went. The Civic was quicker over the black mountain in South Wales I used to regularly drive. It also just suited my driving style down to a tee. It was also amazingly reliable. I had to...

Arctic Trek: My Arctic Road Trip

Just fair warning, the toll bridge from Denmark to Sweden is about £50 for a single car one way. When I moved to Finland and had to pay for a van return, plus a single car and it properly cleaned me out. Other than that, if you are partial to sweets, there's a massive place called Candy World...

Estate, auto, £5-8k - any ideas?

Boring choice, but I'd consider an Avensis with the 1.8 petrol engine. Traded in my 2011 one last year on about 185k miles, and the engine and gearbox were still great (although I did have the manual).

At what point do you call it quits on a car?

Had to make a similar decision last year when I had a €2k quote for work on my Avensis. Decided to trade it in for a Corolla hybrid as it had 290k KM on it and needed some other bits on top of the quoted work (full set of winter tyres etc). It was a bit of a shame as it had full Toyota service...

Cheap fun car options at 5k, any?

Another shout for the FN2. Similar to Lopez above, I loved mine and only sold it because I left the UK. It was fun and reliable. The only criticism I had was that it never seemed to calm down with the revs (even in 6th gear on the M4). As a result it got much lower MPG on the motorway than my...

    New Family

If the civic fits your family needs and you like them more than the SUVs, then you should just buy a civic. Maybe worth having a look at Toyota Corolla hybrid estate too, for similar money to the civic.

I thought they were nice until someone said that they look like they're giving birth to a Porsche at the back and I was never able to unsee it after that

    Change from 370Z

Wouldn't it be better to just run the van and rent a car as and when you need it? From your OP it sounds like you use the 370Z so rarely that it doesn't make much sense. I don't think spending up to £15k on a car to save your no claims bonus is a good idea either. :D

Help me find a car for my partner

You reminded me of a video I watched not long back. He's a car dealer, and in that video he goes through recommends automatic cars for under £5k that have less chance of breaking.

140K mileage for a car - is it worth it?

As someone who was in a very similar place (delivery driver with a MK8 Honda Civic and a dodgy gearbox) I would say just get the gearbox repaired. I made the poor decision of having a second hand one put in instead which had a fault of its own, so just get the one you have done properly. When I...

Ukraine Invasion - Please do not post videos showing attacks/similar

Quite a few comments saying it's old/fake. Can't really make out the roadsign they pass in the video, but they could feasibly be going anywhere tbh

They're quite a normal part of life here. In the capital they are tube stations, bus stations, car parks and can also be used to walk around short parts of the city like between 2 different shopping centres for example. It's nicer in winter because you don't have to go outside when it's cold.

If a tank turret starts zooming around in circles, it's not broken it's just on the spin cycle.

Surely that wouldn't work for the same reason that those countries aren't entering Ukraine (because it could start a much larger war).

I don't think it's bizarre. Pretty much all of Europe has a long history of warfare but Russia has remained quite unpredictable and hostile compared to most.
