Any windows laptop users jumping over to Macbook Pros?

I have to say, the Legion 7 I got in April (specs in first post) is absolutely EPIC. So well made and an excellent 16:10 display. Runs almost all my games at 1440p with very decent fps without issue. It also has a proper mux switch. I got mine for £1450 with Lenovo student discount. It is...

Any windows laptop users jumping over to Macbook Pros?

Yes I saw a video some time ago (Linus Tech Tips I think). It is probably very possible. May even be able to run a dual boot system. I tried recovering my Apple id as I'd not used an iphone for years. There is no automatic recovery - LOL - I have to wait until 23rd Nov for them to email me...

Any windows laptop users jumping over to Macbook Pros?

I think you're right. I got new gadget envy and put an order in for an M1Max. Then came to my senses and cancelled it. I don't actually need it. I guess deep down, there was a desire to give MacOS a spin. You can do that with a 13inch Macbook air or Pro for a fraction of the cost though.

Any windows laptop users jumping over to Macbook Pros?

Hi all, I have been a PC (x86) user forever. I do a mix of productivity work such as video editing and animation as well as some PC gaming (mainly Steam/Epic store games). Seeing the new 2021 Macbook pros and some of the battery life claims/low power usage has made me question whether I need...

Ah, many thanks Chud. Great info. Will report as a bug.

The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

Hi all. I have a Powercolor Red Devil Ultimate. Up till recently, the max power draw of the card was just over 300w as per msi afterburner and fairly static during 4k gaming. Since installing the last couple of driver updates, I am seeing erratic power draw with spikes up to 450w and also...

The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

Hi guys, I have had a Red Devil Ultimate (air cooled) 6900XT for a couple of months now. Monster card but it isn't even breaking a sweat at the standard 303W power. Temps don't get above 65-69 and core clocks are anything between 2450-2690 MHz. I appreciate I can tinker with power limits a...

    Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

Get a USB-C to displayport cable. You can get ones specced to run 4k@144Hz (e.g. from Cable creation). I have an Acer Predator X27P and it works fine at 144Hz (4k) with this cable and the Legion 7 (16'' - 5800h and RTX 3070)

    Firestrike Standard Bench.

2 Scores as I have tested the card with 2 CPUs. Will need to do a clean windows install as it isn't boosting as high with the 5950X as it was with the 5800X. Score 1 - 40,910 Graphics - 59,377 Physics - 30,047 Combined - 14,662 Ryzen 7 5800X @ PBO via mobo (not Ryzenmaster) 6900xt Red Devil...

    Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

Saw this and suspect Lenovo are massively struggling with Legion 5 Pro stock (and Legion 7). I too am considering just getting the Legion 5 (non-pro) with RTX 3070. Realistically speaking, not sure I'll really notice the 16inch screen improvement as I mainly use it for work and connected to a...

Advice for upgrading gaming laptop or waiting

An entry level laptop with RTX 3060 and an i7 11370H (quad core vs your dual core) for £1k will be hundreds of % points faster and more usable than your machine from 2014. The GPU difference in particular is huge. If you don't need it, don't get it yet though. Wait till nearer the time to get...

New laptop with dead pixel - what would you do?

Thanks all. Have contacted the vendor and they are happy to refund or replace. Slightly unfortunately, as I paid for it using bitcoin, a refund would mean I lose around £800 on it as they only refund the value of the laptop in £, at the exhange rate of that day. That is the risk of buying...

New laptop with dead pixel - what would you do?

Hi all, this doesn't relate to OCUK, but just mainly wanted opinions on what people think. I just received a Zephyrus duo (5900Hx, RTX 3080, 4k model) after waiting for 5/6 weeks following pre-order. It is a stellar laptop in almost all respects and suits the role I have for it (video/image...

2021 ROG Zephyrus g15 vs ROG Strix g15

The Strix is a more chunky laptop with better thermals so it can cope with higher tdp for the GPU and CPU (the latter is a guess as I haven't checked) without throttling. The zephyrus is a thinner all-rounder and will actually be on par with last gen RTX 2080 super laptops in gaming...

    Laptop Advice (Design / Gaming)

For your work, I'd say a Zephyrus or Zenbook Duo (Ryzen 9 version) with their really decent 4k panel/ability to multitask with the secondary screen is a good bet but £££ and not sure about availability. Or wait for a Legion 7 coming out in June but that's a QHD panel. Alternatives would be a...

The revival of the gaming laptop and death of eGPU

I can completely relate. Legion 5s are great too. Some of the best performing gaming laptops out there. Can't wait for the new Legion 5/5 Pro and 7.

Looking at new laptop AMD or Intel

A gaming intel system with 10th or 11th gen 6-core CPU will be vastly inferior in multi-core performance compared to Ryzen 7 or 9 variants. Single core, the 11th gen may edge it but you have to remember Intel are still on an ancient 14nm process but have just improved efficiency of their nodes...

The revival of the gaming laptop and death of eGPU

I have always built several high end desktops with top components over the years. I also require a very powerful laptop with discrete GPU for work. Over the years, I have found I just don't bother using my desktops at home as I can take the laptop around and sit wherever and just get on with...

    Wait for 30x GPU Laptops?

Yep agree. Only issue will be whether you can actually get one. Demand likely to be far bigger than supply, at least initially.

    ROG Zephyrus G15 - GA503QS

I have done this previously and had a nightmare with international warranty issues. Have you had to RMA an internationally bought laptop before? Do Asus deal with this type of thing well?
