    AMD Zen 5 rumours

it feels like Zen5 will be a Zen1 moment, with Zen6 being the modern equivalent of the Zen2 revolution. i.e. the arch first, then the packaging that allows the arch to reach its potential. i'm slowly moving into the new PC excitement, but i'm hoping that I can hold it off until Zen6.

What back GPU/s do you have ?

i kept my MSI Lightning 7970 for years after i started running a 6800XT, but these days the backup is tehnically the £300 6700 XT i put in my sons PC. :D

AMD AM5 - New Motherboard Releases for 2024

all the new budget boards seem trash, probably worth checking the original b650 roundup from hardwareunboxed, and seeing if any of the standouts are still available.

    AMD Zen 5 rumours

yes, but there is a difference between NPU TOPS and total-system TOPS. i.e. Hawkpoint NPU = 16 CPU = ~3 GPU = ~20 so when i say i don't believe the WCCFTech article, it's because i don't believe strix point has just 25 TOPS from the NPU (half that of strix halo). specifically - i believe that...

    AMD Zen 5 rumours

not sure i believe the ~25 TOPS. every other rumour seems to point to AMD standardising the whole Zen5/RDNA3.5/XDNA2 range on a MS Co-Pilot compliant 45 TOPS.

    AMD Zen 5 rumours

i note with some skepticism recent rumour suggesting the mainstream version of strix (8c/16t) codenamed kracken is listed as 4x Zen5 + 4x Zen5c. as a cheap product, designed for low TDP, wouldn't it be simpler and cheaper for this product to simply use a single 8x Zen5c ccd?

Jedec approved DDR5 6400 a few months back - when will we see 1.1v DDR5 6400 on sale?

thank you all for the discussion, interesting back and forth which i think answers my question. sorry for the late response, for some reason i didn't get any notifications.

    AMD Zen 5 rumours

is it confirmed yet whether Escher (8x Zen5 core APU), will use 8x Zen5 or 8x Zen5c? with it coming out so close behind Strix (4x Zen5 + 8x Zen5c), i do wonder if it would opt for the latter. and if it does would that that make it a good base for a Steamdeck/Aerith 2.0 APU?

Is it worth upgrading from a 6800XT yet?

Nah, i work to the principle of at least two full process node generations, and at least three architecture generations. i would likewise expect to usefully increase memory capacity and bandwidth - which early generation GDDR7 won't give me. 5870 2GB > 7970 GHz edition > Vega64 > 6800XT = RDNA5...

When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

starting to see deals for 7800XT's at ~£470, which seems like we're finally getting somewhere.

seriously hoping the imminemt CP77 patch will finally include FSR3.

    AMD Zen 5 rumours

Do we expect Zen5 Desktop CPU's on AM5 to sport a 1st/2nd Gen Xilinx NPU, as is the case with Hawkpoint/Strixpoint? And if yes, would we expect this to be integrated into each CCD, or the IOD?

7800XT is going to be a 5-year card!

not sure why the 7800 xt being a "five year card" is a valuable metric that we'd find interest in discussing. it's a good card, if i was buying today i would choose a 7800 xt in a heartbeat. but, it's marginally better than my 6800 xt. and if a 7800 xt is a five year card then i'm pretty sure...

If the Phoenix2 APU has dual channel (128bit) memory, could it be usefully faster than the Steamdeck's APU?

the answer to the question: "could it be usefully faster than the Van Gogh?" - seems to be "no". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dosLW4yWC4M&t=430s it's probably about the same, but still believe it might make it a useful steamdeck 'refresh', and one that provides better emulation support via...

If the Phoenix2 APU has dual channel (128bit) memory, could it be usefully faster than the Steamdeck's APU?

yes, i kinda agree that that valve won't want to release a 2.0 until it has available the power to run all current and near future triple titles, which Van Gogh era performance is starting to struggle with. but i could still see Pheonix2 being used in a 'refresh' product that basically targets...
