Cheap MATX build for 3080Ti GPU

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I don’t need IGP and it was only that I found it odd seeing such old display connectivity on modern motherboards. I have no actual use for them. The valve index just needs DP1.2+, 1 x common garden USB3 socket and power (from its own DC supply).

Cheap MATX build for 3080Ti GPU

Hi, I am looking for some help in speccing a cheap MATX or similar small form factor build for a 3080Ti GPU card that I already own. I am thinking AM4 Ryzen 7 8C/16T for the CPU, but I am clueless on MATX motherboards and cases. I was slightly bemused by VGA and DVI connectivity on some of the...

    Depressing, yet beautiful movies...

The Road. Really good film that I watched by myself. I would like to watch it with the missus, except I don't want to because it is so sad.

    h.265 video to smart tv

Some do and some don't. Transcoding is your best bet. Just setup a batch script and get them all done at once.

High Speed HDMI Cable 4K@60hz 10bit

You are correct. HDMI 2.0 will only do 4:4:4/RGB in 8 bit. You need to drop either frame or chroma sampling rates to get to 10 bit.

Amazon Echo - anyone have one?

Got my echo working with my home automation controller (Homeseer). My kit is zwave based. I can now use Echo to control everything my automation controller can (which is pretty much everything). Lights, AV equipment, blinds, CCTV cameras etc. Quite impressed really.

    Streaming ripped 4K films

What are you talking about. You said - "Yes, Bluray is basically a standard for compression/encoding." I said "Compression standards for bluray are", not Bluray is a compression standard. This is not the same thing  Blu-rays are a physical disk "Blu-ray or Blu-ray Disc...

    HDMI 2 switch advice

Most, if not all switches are not real HDMI 2.0, as they only support 4:2:0 at 4k 60Hz. As has been said, your best bet at present is an up to date AV receiver.

    Streaming ripped 4K films

Wrong. The compression standards for Bluray are MPEG2, VC-1 and H.264. Bluray is the physical medium on which the compressed video, audio, special features, bluray menu structure etc are all stored. Not really. The bitrate is not always fixed. Without going into too much detail, the...

Amazon Echo - anyone have one?

Just ordered one. I am going to integrate it into my home automation controller. I do have a reasonable expectation that it will be a bit rubbish and sit on the shelf unused!

Has anyone got Netflix HDR working on a Samsung TV yet

I watched the first episode of Marco Polo season 2 on my Samsung UE55KS9000 TV last night. I was using the built in Netflix app and it played quite happily in 1080p HDR mode. You could definitely tell the difference, however, Netflix have encoded the video very poorly and there were many...

    Archery

I have been doing target archery for 23 years now. Membership at a local club will get you membership with ArcheryGB. This bit is important as it comes with liability insurance. Most club grounds will be ~ 200m long to cater for overshoot. Also your local club will offer beginners courses. This...

Honeymoon – Virgin Flight (upgrade) ?

Unless you can afford to go Upper Class, then don't bother. Premium Economy in Virigin is not worth the money. The marginally larger (but still uncomfortable) seat doesn't really allow you any more comfort than flying in economy. Also the flight is a tiny proportion of your honeymoon, it is much...

Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

Yep. Had mine done at the London Vision Clinic. This was after previously being told I was unsuitable at a different clinic. LoVC stated I was well within their capabilities and safety margin. Cost and arm and a third leg though! Better than 20/20 vision now :)

    Flying to Canada

I have flown to Vancouver on multiple occasions with both BA and Virgin. The flights are expensive unless you book early. I have only flown in Premium or World Traveller Plus and Virgin are in my opinion much worse than BA in this class. Virgin premium economy have a box underneath the seat...
