I've recently overclocked my PC with the specs below. Do these figures sound about right or is there anything that stands out which could be changed to increase performance.
The core peaks at 53C at full load.
Abit AN8 nForce4 Ultra | AMD Athlon 3700+ | ATI 3870 512MB
Corsair 2GB XMS...
Recently installed this new card to replace my Sapphire ATI X800XL.
Installed it with no problems and used the ATI Uninstall App to get rid of all the old drivers before downloading and installing the latest Catalyst drivers (8.9). All was well until this appeared on my screen only when I...
Still undecided  but came across a review of the Sapphire Radeon HD 3870.
It's quite an interesting read comparing it with the GT8800GT even though the review was dated back in Jan 2008.
Quite tempted to go for a Asus GeForce EN8800 GT 512MB now!
Has anyone had any problems...
I remember when they showed it in that slot.
There were big gaps between series as well from what I can recall even though the various series had been shown in the USA for years.
Will have to watch them all again as I'm sure I missed out the odd episode here and there.
Let me know how you get on. What is your full system btw?
I'm still deciding which card to get (as you know from my other thread) but I have narrowed it down to a 3850, 3870 or 4670 (all 512MB).
Which ATI 3870 card would you recommend?
Is there much difference between a 3850 512MB and a 3870 512MB considering I will only play at 1280 by 1024.
Not considering Nvidia anymore.
As far as I can remember:
Rage II (or something - on board graphics)
3DFX Voodoo3 3000
GeForce4 MX440 64MB
ATI Radeon 9600Pro 128MB
ATI Radeon x800 XL 256MB (Current Card)
I've overclocked my AMD Athlon 3700+ CPU from 2.20GHz (Stock) to 2.64GHz over the weekend so this should help a bit when I decide to install a new card.
Still not sure which card to go for although I would buy a 4850 tomorrow if I was sure my current set up would not bottleneck it.
Just read...
The only real way to find out with your particular set up would be to buy a handful of cards and do some benchmark testing on them and keep the one with the highest rating.
Obviously in reality that's not a possibility. Shame though. :D
I'm still keen on the 4670 but a few people I have...
Another interesting post! Yep, 1280 by 1024 isn't that small a res!
Oh jeez, which card should I go for?
The thing is, I'm not a big gamer. The last games I played was the original Far Cry and HL2 when I bought my current PC 3 yrs ago with my ATI x800XL.
A 512MB card does make sense but...
Fair point.
This new card should keep me going for a bit to play the odd title.
My current system is 3yrs old now, so I'll probably need to buy a complete new system in the next 6-9 months anyway.
Nice spot as like I said I only play @ 1280 by 1024 so don't need a beast.:)
The 8800GT 256MB is looking like the card I will buy.
With this card added to my system, will it play Far Cry 2 at this res?
Thanks.
Can anyone recommend me a PCI-E graphics card upgrade for below £125? Ideally £70-£80! PC spec below!
Please note my LCD monitor has a max res of 1280 by 1024.
I'm looking to play COD4, PES2009 and Far Cry 2 in the near future at native res. Would my PC with any GFX card upgrade run Far Cry...
It's tempting but I'll have to fork out an extra £45+ compared to buying a 3850.
Are there any 4850 cards that really stand out in the lower price bracket?
Gone off the PowerColor 3850 now because as marc2003 states, it's too noisy and you can't adjust the fan speed which is annoying to...
A lot of people have recommended this card in a thread I posted a month or so ago as an upgrade for my system in my sig below.
How do I know this card would be 100% compatible with my current MB set up?
Here is a link to my MB: Abit AN8 Ultra
I'm guessing it would run fine via the...
Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for!
Just to wrap this up, would I be able to run COD4 and similar games at 1280 by 1024 easily with fairly high detail with my single core CPU combined with a ATI 3850 pro 512MB?
