The 12700k is a great pick, but at this point I'd be waiting for the Raptor launch to hopefully create a deal on something.

3440x1440 is probably just pushing the gtx 980 beyond what it can handle. It might be time for some upgrades, post you current specs and I'm sure you'll get some suggestions. Short term you might need to just drop some of the games detail settings down a few notches.
