*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

I'm using a Speedlink Black Widow (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GC-002-SL&groupid=702&catid=288&subcat=352) which works well. Not got all the buttons that the X52 has, but a very good and far cheaper stick.

    *** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

If there was a 64GB version I'd probably be excitedly waiting for a parcel to turn up at the moment. Actually, quite glad there isn't a 64GB version as I can't really afford it...

Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Bit odd that you are forced to set up a Windows Account to continue the install. My wife uses a local account on her laptop, had to pull the network cable out during install and then it let me continue without having to use a Windows account. Oh, and the update appears to have uninstalled...

Aye, but it does sound like it will be fantastic when it is included. Rather than a nicely textured but ultimately dead planet you will get wildlife and cities and a genuine unique feel to each planet!

***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Should have my S3 back soon (it was one of the ones that bricked itself recently). Showing as repaired on Samsung's repair tracking. Don't know if I get any info about what went wrong, will post if there is any info. All covered under warranty. Not a moment too soon either, my Galaxy S feels...

***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I don't live anywhere near a Samsung repair centre so have to send mine back. Parcel arrived today containing a jiffy bag and special delivery envelope. Suddenly worried that I should have gone via BuyMobilePhones.net for this, but I suspect they would just point me at Samsung anyway... But...

My phone would have been one of the first batch of white's made, don't know if maybe there is a problem with the early ones?

***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Had my S3 brick itself last week. It's on stock firmware Jelly Bean, been going fine for just under 6 months and then decided to freeze up a couple of times on the lock screen which was cured by pressing and holding the power button. Third time it appears to have frozen with screen off and no...

    Google Music

I haven't seen any official announcement of the scan and match service and it's not mentioned in the help so I wonder if they haven't released it yet. Only sign it might have worked was one track said it was possibly mismatched and then wouldn't play. All other tracks took ages so weren't matching.

I'll pledge but I have two concerns at the moment. 1) He mentions wanting a return to the original "Elite" flying. I think this would be a mistake, I'd much prefer physics based, though stop the jousting type of combat that happened in Frontier and head more towards the Independence War games...

    Best free DVD ripper

Nope, it's all illegal, as is ripping CDs into MP3s. But I'd be really surprised if anyone was arrested over it as long as you don't start selling the MP3s or movies on. The new Digital Economy Act is looking to make it legal to rip CDs and DVDs for personal use though.

    Windows 8 Install Thread*

Oh, and a minor useful tip: If you have 2 step authentication switched on for your google account, and you want to avoid having to set up an application specific password for Chrome Sync, just ignore the first login it prompts you with, sign into Gmail with your authenticator code and then when...

My printer driver installed when I switched on the printer, was very impressed! I've got a networked printer (Canon MP560), switched it on and it suddenly popped up as a device.

    Windows 8 Install Thread*

Had a minor hiccup on my install. Downloaded the upgrade version, put it on a USB key, rebooted and did a clean install. All went well until it told me to remove the USB key and reboot. Wouldn't boot, kept hanging on one of the BIOS boot screens and I couldn't even get into the BIOS setup pages...

    Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Some answers from Microsoft in the Q&A here: http://betanews.com/2012/07/04/four-things-you-really-need-to-know-about-windows-8-upgrades/ The answer to question 2 confirms that you can do a clean install using the upgrade version. The only requirement is that at the start of the upgrade...

Don't really use the case for protection, it's more for grip! Just feels far too slippery without it! Got a Rock quicksand on mine :)

Can't seem to get the Google Now hotword to work. You should be able to say "Google" to start searching but it won't. The option is also missing from Settings (I think it's Menu -> Settings -> Voice -> Enable Hotword, not got the tablet with me)
