Thanks! What should i do? If the wire comes loose they might be able to shove it out of the way and get back in

    Rodent Infestation Yikes!!

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Think i'll try the steel wool and expanding foam option, as the expanding foam by itself was successful, albeit temporarily. What is the best way to do this. I have a one-inch drill bit, I could drill holes in the skirting boards, then shove in as much...

    Rodent Infestation Yikes!!

Hi And thanks for reading. I have a few rats running around in my wall cavaties and in the loft. Did a search and found that people were filling up entrance points into their homes using expanding foam to prevent the rodents from entering. I did the same and it really has helped, but now they...

Micro ATX board for htpc, with lga 1151 support

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Are you saying a basic board like the H110 is good enough for htpc, and there will be no benefit from buying a higher spec board or gaming board? Also is there any benefit from buying a modern cpu and motherboard, ditching the old stuff i have, is there...

Micro ATX board for htpc, with lga 1151 support

Hi Thanks for reading. I am wanting to purchase a new micro atx motherboard for building a home theatre pc. I have a 6th-generation Intel LGA1151 processor and would like a mobo which accepts this. Also a reliable board. My last mobo died and took the hard drive with it and I lost 8 TB of data...

Power supply recommendations, any good ones.

Thanks. As you rightly say they charge extra for the brand recognition, so is it possible to buy a good quality power supply at a cheaper price rather than having to pay double because it has a corsair sticker on it. If so which psu would you recommend. Thanks

Power supply recommendations, any good ones.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. The consensus indicates the hxi is a decent supply and i should keep that, Seasonic are saying their prime titanium series are the best psu's and are charging over £300 for these. What is the big deal, what do they give for charging this much money...

Power supply recommendations, any good ones.

Hi And thanks for reading. I have been using a corsair rm650x for a while, then i upgraded to a corsair hx1000i. Immediatly upon boot up i noticed the desktop looked cleaner and clearer, the audio sounded more detailed less distortion, the hx seems superior to the rmx, the pc is working better...

    soundcard vs receiver or preamp

Thanks for the replies much appreciated. The chord mojo is good but i need multichannel 5.1 or 7.1. I would love more some recommendations for multichannel dacs or preamps, budget is £300 but am also willing to look at second hand. Also I am going to try different media players for windows 10...

    soundcard vs receiver or preamp

The reason i want to get away from sound cards and onto external dac is that i am having problems with the pc audio. I've searched around for months but cannot find anybody with a similar problem. When i play a stereo file of low bitrate on the pc, about 140 kb/s the sound quality is okay, i can...

    soundcard vs receiver or preamp

I have the asus H170I-PRO motherboard, paid £159 high end board, lets me put out 5.1 through the hdmi. Am thinking of a preamp or dac from hdmi. The speakers i have are kef ls50 meta, paid £999 per pair. What do you mean quality will be compromised by the board? Any dac recommendations? Willing...

    soundcard vs receiver or preamp

Think i may try the dac route. Do you have any good recommendations for external dac / preamps for a 5.1 system. Preferably hdmi out from pc, to hdmi input on dac/ preamp, then rca outs on dac for connection to power amps. I have a budget of £300, or am willing to buy used.

    soundcard vs receiver or preamp

Hi Thanks for reading What do you think of a decent level soundcard versus decent receiver. The soundblaster ae5 connected to external power amps, versus yamaha rxa2070 I know this is a stupid question and there is some old debate, would love a modern 2021 point of view. Do you have any real...

Do you know the capacitors function on this motherboard

As Hotwired mentioned upgrading the mobo is an option or perhaps a discrete card, which of the two would you go for. Also would the mobo affect the discrete card's performance IE Would the discrete card perform better on a full size mobo or a small form factor. Thanks

Do you know the capacitors function on this motherboard

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. The reason for the question, i built a htpc and am using the hdmi out from the pc sent to a screen to reproduce the picture. The pc has analog 7.1 output via 3.5mm jacks which i am running to several power amps to produce the audio. Picture is okay...

Do you know the capacitors function on this motherboard

Thanks! Why only block dc on the stereo output, it is a 7.1 chip labelled as alc887. Shouldn't it be caps to block dc on all 8 channels. Seems pointless to dc block just the stereo channels.

Do you know the capacitors function on this motherboard

Hi. I have the asus H170I-PRO motherboard, which has 4 gold coloured capacitors in the corner. These are described as audio grade premium caps by the manufacturer. But what do they do. I thought they may be to smooth the dc power supply a little but they are far away from the audio chip. Or are...

    H170I-PRO motherboard weird noise

Hi And thanks for reading. The problem i am having is that whenever i connect my amp to any sound source equipment which uses rca connectors for the sound output, the amp works fine. Connected the amp to the Asus H170I-PRO motherboard which uses 3.5mm jacks for the sound output and i am getting...
