Noteworthy Cars for Sale [Appreciation Thread]

I love the colour and the plate is probably worth a bit of money, but when he says "will require assistance to get started" he probably means it's been sitting for ages, which means it's practically worthless unfortunately. When they haven't run for a while you can be pretty sure it'll need the...

    Your bad driving encounters

Properly scary one this afternoon. I was driving at around 85 down the motorway, only a couple of cars behind me, quite a way back. Noticed traffic stopped in the distance so lifted off and coasted for a while before gently braking to a stop, alongside an X3M. Looked at my phone while I was...

Difference between big name and no name breakdown cover

Before Covid, they took 11hrs to get me at most 1.5-2hrs home. I can't imagine how bad they must be now if they've got even worse since then.

XC60 as a rental car for 5 people with 4 bags

The "or similar" part is what would worry me. I can't personally comment as to whether everything would fit in an XC60, but there's a fair chance they won't even give you that exact car. I rent cars fairly often and I'd say I end up with the exact model I booked less than 50% of the time.

    Your bad driving encounters

A few particularly crazy ones recently.... Number 1, coming down a residential road and a woman in a new Kia saloon comes out of a side turning without looking whatsoever. I slammed on the brakes and heard a bang but wasn't sure if I'd hit her or not. Got out to check and luckily there was...

    Cyprus - Car Shennanigans

I personally wouldn't bother officially importing the car into Cyprus as he's coming back to the UK into mid 2027 but I'm a terrible lawbreaker.

    Cyprus - Car Shennanigans

I would also bring a UK car if I were in your position. Apart from anything else, I imagine that Cypriot cars have a considerably harder life in terms of standards of maintenance, road quality etc so not only would you be paying more, you'd be getting something in worse condition. I've never...

    Relocation to Spain Experience

Definitely agree with you about the pool cover. They look ugly as well, and for me at least part of the point of having a pool is to make the garden look nice.

WFH - From Abroad - Why not?

There are three key elements to making this type of thing work: 1) Moving to a country with a lower cost of living than the country you're being paid in. 2) Either having an employer who is totally OK with it (unlikely), or simply not telling them (can be quite easy depending on the job). 3)...

    Road Tripping in the USA!

Agreed. San Antonio is a place you can see in a day or two, but Austin is really nice and has plenty to see. @Capt Doufos if you're around that part of Texas you should definitely check out Gruene which is just off the highway between SA and Austin. It's a really nice old style town, not a big...

    Relocation to Spain Experience

I would definitely prioritize the wall if at all possible. Our area is considerably less dusty than yours, and we normally have to vacuum the pool every couple of weeks to avoid too much dust build up on the bottom. At least with the system we have, the particles of dust are too fine to be...

At what point do you call it quits on a car?

With all the time you've spent posting this thread and defending yourself, instead you could have posted a thread asking if people could help you find OEM parts for your Volvo and you'd have probably had a full shopping list in under a day. Like you, I also pay extra for convenience, or to...

At what point do you call it quits on a car?

I can totally understand not wanting to work on your own car. Yes, it saves you money, but it's definitely not for everyone and I try to avoid it as well unless there's no other practical option. OEM parts do not have to be from a Volvo parts supplier. In many cases, parts from Eurocarparts...

Not very good in many, many ways but I'm having fun driving it around the mountains before I sell it on.

Critique my off road Rolls Royce project idea

@Diddums Fair to say that post blew up quite a bit :D I got some really good advice from that group - there's a few idiots but plenty of people who really know their stuff too and a couple have agreed to help me over the phone for when we hit the inevitable issues. I posted it on a Rolls Royce...

Shipping my 1975 Rolls Royce from the UK to Mexico

The brakes don’t work which is the most expensive and complicated thing on them so it really, really is.

Shipping my 1975 Rolls Royce from the UK to Mexico

Thanks! Yes, I did have to go through a customs broker. If you want to PM me I can give you my number so we can talk, but in short, there is no legitimate way to import your 2018 Lotus and make it fully legal in Mexico as for a permanent import the car has to be either manufactured in North...

Volvo XC90 - talk to me

I'm glad to see someone who likes doing similar stupid **** to me, I hope you do some threads or videos of your adventures as I'm sure I'd really enjoy watching them. So far I've done Mexico to Miami in an old Range Rover Sport, Texas to Monterrey in an old Rolls Royce, and various mountain /...
