Anyone taken their DIY skills professional?

That's my own choice, it affects nobody else, personally i don't think it worth buying. My own house i will deal with any eventuality myself. I was merely using that point to emphasise that even i wouldn't work at someone else's house with no insurance. Totally different ballgame :p

Anyone taken their DIY skills professional?

What is WTF about saying you think someone would be mad to operate in someone else's house without any insurance (unless you are super dodgy and can disappear like del boy)? By saying i am not risk averse i am emphasising that you really would have to be mad to do this - you could cause so much...

Anyone taken their DIY skills professional?

I'm not at all risk averse, i don't buy insurance for my own house as i dont generally believe insurance to be value for money, but you'd have to be nuts or extremely dodgy and able to disappear without trace to work on someone else's without insurance. If you so much as flood some water...

Anyone taken their DIY skills professional?

I am a keen DIY builder and have thought about this a few times. However, being "on the tools" is not a feasible way to go about it in my opinion, you'll likely never make consistently as much as through a corporate job, and unlike with a corporate you wont be sitting there drinking coffee as...

    Plug socket in water

I have had similar conversations to this with electricians and building inspectors a few times. I clearly cant tar them all with the same brush but Skodamart seems to fall into this camp. This is a slight tangent to the specific situation in this thread, but they never seem to understand the...

    TV Licence Super Thread

Out of interest (asking, not being obtuse) do you know how for example the US FTA terrestrial broadcast system is funded? This seems like a good point if the license fee pays for the existing transmitters - we'll end up with an infrastructure tax to maintain terrestrial services.

Question for those with 7 seaters & young kids

I just had a look on AT, you can get some pretty cool looking ones for about 30, a private one in Cheltenham outside a decent looking house caught my eye - quite new with light electric interior and looks pretty decent with low miles too. Will be very slow though, they look to only have the 4...

Question for those with 7 seaters & young kids

The massive idea which will make your kids love you and feel as though they are on tour - a high spec V-Class. I went in a V-Class today (a transfer car for a client i work for, they also use them for transferring VIPs to their events) - they are obviously a van, but they are hilarious to be a...

    Engineered v Laminate floor

Loads of laminate and LVT click flooring in our house - no complaints at all, but only use laminate in very dry areas which do not see outdoor footwear or any water. LVT a lot more expensive but totally impervious to water, in hindsight i would always do a kitchen/bathroom/boot room/dog...

    TV Licence Super Thread

Doesn’t work for TVs or IOS devices unfortunately, which covers everything in our house :( (TVs being the main issue).

    TV Licence Super Thread

I do this, family sub is the best one which charges around £1.90/month to a fee free credit card. Well worth it and means your kids gaming videos and peppa pig or whatever searches go on their own login :D

Will 1Gigabyte per second (8gbps) connections be a thing in the UK within the next 5-10 years?

Genuinely cannot imagine why anyone would really value 2Gbps over regular 1Gbps in 2022. Marketing gimmick only. I have a 1/1gbps FTTP connection and there is nothing currently which ever touches the sides for more than a few moments.

Will 1Gigabyte per second (8gbps) connections be a thing in the UK within the next 5-10 years?

The network i am on, Gigaclear, did this for a short time. I would imagine that a lot of the other alternative operators like them can also offer this, but of course there is no actual demand.

    Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Good garage that, ive banded their name around a few times on here - wish i had similar for BMW and Porsche. Makes running any Mercedes a non issue.

Anyone done a garage conversion? Expected costs?

Those numbers sound sensible to me, if anything good value. Going on the additional detail which you provided re the state of the floor being good, etc, you'd be in for probably £2-2.5k doing it all yourself i would estimate.

    Purchasing Land (Farmer)

Genuinely cannot believe that the price was so low, absolutely delighted to be totally wrong on that one! :) Great job.

Upgrading house to 3 phase supply

Rating doesn’t mean it is using anything like that amount, the cooker is “rated” at something like 65A (6 hobs 3 ovens, plate warmer and grill). In reality you never run all of the elements at the same time but overall the picture is that in theory, just at the wrong time, we are way way over...

Upgrading house to 3 phase supply

Hey Olly :) I have never really looked into EV chargers beyond basic commando 16a plug in ones out of interest (I only have diesel cars but this can only last so long!). I wasn’t aware at all that any of the better chargers monitored your overall grid load. I knew they featured timers and smart...

Upgrading house to 3 phase supply

Really not convinced that it is? I have 63A worth of heating, a 13A immersion heater, a range cooker rated at >60A. I appreciate diversity should obviously be taken into account but it seems too close to the bone to me? Our new property is very similar - the heating in that is (going to be) Air...

    Laser levels

I do a lot of DIY/Building work - laser level is a must, absolutely invaluable for jobs as simple as a Curtain pole or tv bracket through to fitting kitchens, lining up downlights on a ceiling or even bricklaying. I have a Stanley item, seems fine. I am sure that they are all the same :)
