I did exactly what you are thinking of doing, for precisely the same reason. My Dell2405FPW was too demading for a Powercolor 1900XT-X to run at 1920x1200 with maxed out AA & AF. I swapped out the 1900XT-X for two Gainward Bliss 7900GTX's in SLi. The difference in COD2 was quite significant...

Surely nVidia will implement SLi with Conroe with a chipset of their own? Is the bandwidth issue just the Intel chipset, not the CPU itself? I am very interested in getting a Conroe chip, but I have 7900GTX SLi. There is no way I am going to change to Crossfire just because of a CPU change.

Well, for what it's worth, I got 6224 in 3DMark06 with the following spec: CPU @ 2387MHz @ 217 FSB x 11 multiplier GPU's @ stock with SLi on My original score was 5910, so an increase of 314 overall. It seems that the CPU is the bottle neck in this test for me. I want to wait for...

Thanks for that mate, gives me something to aim at. Will have a play with the sytem today if possible and see how much I can ramp up the score. Seems like the CPU is responsible for some of the problem, could do with overclocking it a bit. Will post back with some results later

Can verify that. Used to use one of these with a zalman, gave good results at 1024x768 with near silent operation. For the CPU (3700+), used a swiftech heat sink with 80mm fan. This waqs on minimum speed with fan controller. Made for a very quiet HTPC, with decent performance
