    Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

One was, yes, a 19 plate car fitted with the AMG ride control suspension and the comfort mode was indeed noticeably less jarring than standard setup. With the standard setup expansion joints etc sent a sharp shock through the whole car. Ride control reduces this maybe 30-40% however for...

    Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Don’t buy an A35 AMG if you even slightly value refinement. Drove a few last year and found the std suspension extremely harsh and the road noise at motorway speed unbearable. ‘Hey mercedes’ voice control is also irritating. Eventually picked up an ex demo C43 which is superior in every way bar...

    Luxury car for £6000...

A full size Range Rover often makes a lot of sense over an S class or 7 series type vehicle of the older vintage due to practicality/visibility and imperious driving position... I ditched a W220 S500 for one years ago. L322 was great in its day, I now drive an L405 SDV8 but in some ways it’s...

Problem with a dealer bought car (2016 updated for 2020)

I feel your pain, had the same problem on a 650i, the cost of repair was fairly eye watering (quoted around £3k at BMW on car worth £6.5-7 tops), lots of labour involved, and from the look of it a fairly specialist job on such a complex engine. If you check the american forums you will see this...

Baby issue, Decent 4 seater convertible options to replace Mercedes SL

Could be worse, the next thing I keep toying with around this budget is a Quattroporte...

Baby issue, Decent 4 seater convertible options to replace Mercedes SL

100% certain the UK did get the 600, I have seen them before on AT but very rare, don't imagine many appreciated the subtlety of the 600 against the CL63, I must say however that the 5.5 in the W221 and W216 500s is an excellent engine with 388bhp so makes fairly decent progress, early higher...

Baby issue, Decent 4 seater convertible options to replace Mercedes SL

I would be seriously tempted with the W216 CL as mentioned earlier, IMO very impressive interior which still looks fairly current and plenty of toys, I don't think you will find a 20k convertible that will match the L322 or SL in the interior dept if that is a big consideration

Baby issue, Decent 4 seater convertible options to replace Mercedes SL

To be honest, only thing that is a wothwhile change and fulfills the criteria would be the Conti GTC, but that is £40k+ as you know. Personally, I like the E class convertible and would consider an E350CGI (did they sell any E500s here?), as if nothing else it is younger than the SL, and circa...

    Tax Disc Question

Hi Guys, I have a car with valid MOT and Insurance that has just come off SORN and was taxed on Friday via DVLA website. I want to lend the car to my father to complete a motorway journey tomorrow morning, and the physical tax disc will not arrive in time (last disc expired 31/1) My question...

Stupidest waste of money you do?

Boating, massive moneypit in every way, however for those few precious days in summer when you can cruise in sunshine, sunbathe on the bow, and get the rods in the water, it all makes sense!

    Comfy 4*4 - BMW / Porsche / others recommended?

In most large V8 SUVs, for example RR V8 and ML500 etc having a V8 large capacity engine is a boon, as they tend to be fairly bulletproof providing they are serviced regularly, due to being understressed and relatively simple compared to their turbodiesel counterparts. With the Cayenne however...

    my saab needs replacement bulb(s)

If the car has factory xenons (evident by no manual level control on dash and headlamp washers) it'll be the the first link you gave (D2S), second link is for standard H7 halogen bulbs.

    Porsche Cayenne

What did you go for in the end? I've looked at the remap in the past, but not sure how reliable the 'tuners' claims are, and not sure I want the hassle of having to insure a 'modified' car etc. would like to try one that had been done to compare though!

    Porsche Cayenne

Personally, I would recommend looking for a 55 plate onwards as they have the improved Jaguar V8 engines and running gear, better infotainment systems and suspension tweaks. I paid 14k 18months ago for a fairly low miles V8 Autobiography on a 05, which has been good to me so far, only...

    Porsche Cayenne

I looked into these 18 months ago before settling on L322 range rover. 'Sporting' to drive for size of car, 3.2 V6 pointless and woefully slow, 4.5V8 'S' has a fair amount of punch, Turbo is simply awesome. Terrible ride on non air suspension 'PASM', interior low rent and slightly...

    Show Us Your Motors!

Not a fan of the P38 with sport front end, although at least it looks slightly better than a P38 with L322 front end, one around locally that I always cringe at when passing, proportions are just wrong! Don't know whats wrong with a well kept P38 as it came from factory, no need to make it look...

    I'm a tree killer now

Nice car - personally I would have gone for the 07 facelift to get the more modern dash etc but still an excellent car - its a fairly simple car compared to an S class or E65 etc, heck compared to the P38, the L322 seems fairly reliable in my experience providing you start with a cherished...

What have you done to your car today?

Retrofitted the official BMW iPod kit to the 650i today, in place of the CD changer in glovebox (2 screws to release changer, pull it out and disconnect lead, replug lead and put module in place) massive improvement, definitely worth it for complete ipod control through idrive, far better than...
