Anyone know if PC components are cheaper in the UK than the USA right now?

Interesting; it's not often you might get something cheaper new at a brick & mortar rather than used on eBay or similar...! Maybe I'll try in shops, but is there any way to know what the MSRP of cards like the 2060 is, so I can tell if a shop is even inflating their prices??

Anyone know if PC components are cheaper in the UK than the USA right now?

I moved to America but I'm (finally!) coming back to the UK for a visit just after Christmas and in dire need to upgrade/rebuild my gaming/VR PC which I built in 2012....!! I'm probably looking to save some money by buying used, as long as that's not a bad idea since crypto mining became a thing...

If my CPU temp is maxing out at 60° under full load does that mean it's throttling?

Ok thanks guys! I wonder, therefore, why it’s only going to 60° and pretty much staying there....? Is it really just that that’s as hot as it gets going at max load without overclocking?

If my CPU temp is maxing out at 60° under full load does that mean it's throttling?

One more question - I remember learning last time about how my Gigabyte motherboard has some kind of 'turbo' feature where (if I understand this correctly) it kind of variably overclocks the CPU as and when it needs to, rather than say setting it to 4.2GHz and leaving it there. Have you had...

If my CPU temp is maxing out at 60° under full load does that mean it's throttling?

Oh sorry, my bad. I thought any 'K' could be overclocked but anyway, sounds like a Hyper212 might be a decent low-cost upgrade for this truly 'end of life' machine :-) Now I'll have to remember everything I ever learned and then forgot about overclocking in like 2005.....!! Thanks for the tips!

If my CPU temp is maxing out at 60° under full load does that mean it's throttling?

Ok thanks, that's all useful info. So really the problem with it staying at 60c might just be that it's not overclocked at all yet? As I mentioned, it is the 'K' model which I'm pretty sure means it's unlocked for overclocking, right? But I guess my question would be, should I overclock with a...

If my CPU temp is maxing out at 60° under full load does that mean it's throttling?

I have an older CPU, an i5 3470K, that under full load measures about 60° on Speedfan. Does this mean it's throttling/not being used to its full potential becuase it won't allow itself to overheat? Might I benefit from a better cooler than the stock Intel one it came with in order to get full...

RX 580 suddenly stopped working after I upgraded my CPU cooler...??!

Ok thanks, I tried cleaning my GPU board with alcohol to remove some of the old grime, and also re-seated my CPU, but still the same lack of video output. I also noticed whilst re-seating my CPU that a few of the pins look a little bent (it's slightly more noticeable at certain angles than...

RX 580 suddenly stopped working after I upgraded my CPU cooler...??!

Yep, tried the card in another PCIe slot, and tried another PCIe card in the same slot (it worked). I tried flashing the BIOS but the AMD BIOS tool won't even detect the card, so I'm guessing that's going to be a problem..... Thanks, that's a good idea, although I have tried another GPU in the...

RX 580 suddenly stopped working after I upgraded my CPU cooler...??!

Ok so update - new PSU didn't fix anything, neither did inspecting the ports, checking for dust, trying the DisplayPort or updating my motherboard's BIOS... I'm afraid it might just be 'dead'. And of course, Sapphire's customer support were useless and just said "yeah it probably just went bad"...

RX 580 suddenly stopped working after I upgraded my CPU cooler...??!

Thanks for all the replies folks. I have a new PSU coming today so I can rule that out, but one thing I will be checking first is that no dust/anything else foreign got blown into anywhere it shouldn’t have when I blew out the card with compressed air, as I have a feeling it could be something...

RX 580 suddenly stopped working after I upgraded my CPU cooler...??!

Thanks all; I’ve only just learned about flashing the GPU bios... Would that even be possible if the card isn’t even showing up in device manager? As for setting the graphics preference in my Gigabyte BIOS, I have it set to prioritise the ‘PEG’ graphics (which I think is Pci Express...

RX 580 suddenly stopped working after I upgraded my CPU cooler...??!

I'm trying to keep a (very!) ageing PC alive that I built in 2012.... Most recent upgrade was a Radeon RX 580 8GB in early 2020 and it's running very nicely. I dual boot Windows and MacOS (Hackintosh) if that makes any difference. Today I decided to upgrade my crappy stock Intel CPU cooler to a...

Is my old (2012) CPU likely bottlenecking my more modern (2017) GPU in video editing/rendering?

I'm still rocking a Core i5 3470K that I bought in 2012. I don't really need to have the newest most powerful gaming system any more as I now use Shadow cloud gaming service for that, but I wanted a little extra power for editing 4K video which I do a lot. To this end, I decided to upgrade my...

Computer keeps getting dusty. Should I block up all non-airway holes in my case?

I have a pretty big PC case with lots of parts for fans, some of which aren’t covered with that just filter foam stuff. The case also has a few holes for stuff like water cooling pipes/grilles in the unused PCI slot covers that are completely open. i’m wondering whether I should cover those up...

Looking to swap my Canon G7X for a camcorder to get better zoom shots. Which one of these is best?

NOTE: I'm in the USA at the moment so these links are in $USD I've been making travel videos for YouTube for a while using a Canon G7X compact, which is a great camera, but now I also have a GoPro MAX which I've decided is decent enough for 'selfie' shots and wide-angle establishing shots (in...

8GB DDR3 in my system from 2012 - should I add more RAM?

I do a bit of 4K video editing, as it happens.... At this point for DDR3 it also looks like there might not be that much price difference between adding another 8 or another 16GB. I just can't remember whether there's any drawbacks to adding an 'uneven' amount of RAM. I think I remember it's...

8GB DDR3 in my system from 2012 - should I add more RAM?

Okay thanks, so do you think 16GB is about the right amount for me then? Or should I add another 16GB to the 8GB I have already for 24 total?

8GB DDR3 in my system from 2012 - should I add more RAM?

I built my main machine in 2012 with the hardware in my sig so it's not exactly 'cutting edge'. I recently updated my GPU to an RX 580 8GB and don't really plan on updating anything else anytime soon (will probably just buy/build an entirely new machine in a few years), BUT I'm wondering whether...
