The difference a shroud and separated airflow can make

Imagine a case which allows bottom fan placements, i.e. PSU in an atypical location (Fractal Torrent springs to mind as one of the few new options for that) and funnelling the air from 2x140s directly and solely to the GPU. I wonder if that would blow what James did in the video out of the...

The difference a shroud and separated airflow can make

Yes I don't think it'll be feasible to mass-produce a one-size-fits-all either. If it takes off in the custom enthusiast arena you can bet some who have 3D printers and are handy with modelling will be uploading files for all sorts of different GPUs, though.

The difference a shroud and separated airflow can make

@montymint Nice. I guess for this to work with GPUs they must have a gap at the top to let the hot air out, as that one does. Otherwise exhausting all the hot air through the meagre rear vents might prove difficult. Especially as most heatsinks have sideways instead of lengthwise-oriented fins...

    3090FE low GPU usage?

@RipGroove cheers for the update and congrats. Nice when it just works out of the box. My own system's been purring nicely over a month, with SA and IO2 still on 1.3v.

    Controlling my 10850K?

Yes. Not just using single boost but the core usage amount. I use RivaTuner overlay while gaming to see CPU core usage and there's always at least one core pegged to max or close to it.

New build help (and advice) - Quiet, White and a touch of Gaming <£1500

I've built in that Mesh SE case and it's not ideal for mech drives. The cage is the thinnest aluminium ever and wobbly. The PCI expansion slot mechanism is also weak and doesn't hold up graphics cards with a bit of weight to them. The few holes in the mechanism are also too big for the normal...

    New PC Build £850-1000

Can any parts be salvaged from that system, particularly the GPU and any drives, maybe case? If so, find out what models they are.

Time to dig out your older unopened pc games

You have to take into account money/bribe laundering as well as rich and stupid factors. Like a certain president's son selling art paintings for the first time at $500,000 a pop.

    Ram wont stay at 3600Mhz

As @RipGroove said, System Agent and CPUIO2/Mem OC voltages (whatever they are called on Gigabyte Z590, find out) can play a big role in memory on Rocket Lake, and up to 1.5v for System Agent is safe (according to an OcUK technician). I believe 1.4v is safe for CPUIO2/Mem OC. The values are a...

New build for up to £1000

A 1660 will not pull anywhere near 450W so you can easily re-use your EVGA 650 G2 which is a good PSU. 450W PSU would be the recommendation for overall system draw including 1660. But it's best to look at what the GPU actually pulls on its own...

    hard drive advice?

So are there any 2.5" drives occupying those 3.5" bays? You could transfer those out to any 2.5" mounting locations to make room. If they are SATA SSDs you don't even actually need to mount them, just find a place to rest them somewhere, use double-sided sticky tape or something.

    WD Red older drives

The Ironwolf* cycle from active to idle_a is extremely quiet. It's all the cycles between idle_a, idle_b, idle_c and idle_d that make the churning sounds apart from complicated reads and writes (which aren't part of my usage - only heard it on an intensive benchmark). Can use SeaChest to disable...

    NFA12x25 vs Thermaltake Toughfan 12

Test them individually outside your system, hold them in your hand, and see which, if any, doesn't sound right. For good 120mm employed as case fans about 1200 RPM is about right if you care about noise, or lower still.

Yes, and they switched the plain WD Red NAS from CMR to SMR without saying anything initially.
