Sennheiser HD650 - The classic beauty in a grey dress Appreciation thread!

6.something Watts apparently (so not a great deal, but more than I expected when it's idle), still may as well get the better one while i'm at it ;-) Saying that, I'm deciding what DAC to get but will probably also get some new headphones to get with it later - I have some Oppo PM-3s but...

Sennheiser HD650 - The classic beauty in a grey dress Appreciation thread!

fwiw, I've also been thinking about a Jotunheim, and when I mailed Shiit.eu earlier they said they should have stock within the next 2 weeks. On a related note, does anyone who has the multibit version of the modi have any experience with leaving it turned on all the time vs. turning if off...

    ** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

Fabulous timing, asked for my order to be changed from a Hybrid to a Gaming X just before the prices jumped up. Still, hopefully means toys for the weekend :-)

    ** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

Gibbo, any other comments on the EVGA hybrid or Xtreme Water cards? I probably shouldn't rush at this point, but I have a couple of weeks off work and I fancy a new toy to play with.

    ** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

I have a hybrid on pre-order, but I was considering switching to the gigabyte xtreme waterforce (it'll cost a bit more and probably won't really be any faster, but the extra hdmi's might be useful for my Vive and the colour fits in more with my SOC champion ;) ). I opened a webnote enquiring...

    ** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

Looks like the SeaHawk has 1 power connector, yet several of the cheaper MSI models have 2? Odd choice, have to see some reviews to see if it matters I suppose.

What the blazes - Firefox 46.0.1

I saw this mentioned on Twitter earlier: https://miketaylr.com/posts/2016/05/anti-virus-more-like-anti-anti-virus.html Apparently down to Facebook enabling some compression settings that kaspersky then falls over.

Got an issue with your Vive?

When I first set mine up I sometimes had a problem on audio shield with the left shield losing position when playing on the higher difficulty (it'd just move to the left of where it should be, or move too close to me). I had the lighthouses sitting at desk height at the time, and after...

    Stands for Vive Lighthouses?

The ones mentioned in the first post? I ordered a pair of those yesterday (decided that the flexibility would be useful to make it easier to move things about). I played some audio shield last night with the lighthouses around waist height and with an overlapping field of view (rather than...

    Stands for Vive Lighthouses?

So, got my Vive yesterday and need to get the lighthouses set up somewhere (currently have them sitting on my desk, but as i'm sitting in between the desk and wall there isn't really enough space there). The room it's in has sloping walls with a ledge around the edge that could be a good place...

** NEW ANTEC AIO COOLERS **

Getting the cpu block screwed in was a bit of a pain (holding the block in place and getting the first screw in need a bit of force!), but fine otherwise - nice how it doesn't fill up the whole case! As far as noise goes, I can't hear the pump when the fans are running at standard speed, but...

** NEW ANTEC AIO COOLERS **

Right, got all my new bits now (5820k, SOC Champion, H1200, Enthoo Primo case), so i'll be putting that together later or over the weekend :-). I'll have a go with the default fans and then see - I have a couple of SP120 high performance fans as intakes in my curent case that I could use but...

    Monitors randomly loose signal?

I had some issues with one of my monitors losing the signal randomly after getting a longer DP cable (worked fine with the original, not sure if was just a bad replacement or if it wasn't up to spec or what). Don't know if that could be it, but fwiw.

quick question about NVMe drives and Linux

That's what it says on nvmexpress.org. That said i'm thinking of giving Fedora 23 a proper go rather than Mint and that's on 4.2. Can but run up a live version and see what it sees.

    X99 motherboard for overclocking

I got a champion, a 5820k and a H1200 cooler yesterday, and should have a new case coming later, so i'll be seeing about getting things set up some time this week :-) I'll keep an eye on the bios situation, thanks.

    quick component check

Ok, went to the shop and got all the bits mentioned above besides a case (I attempted to get a black/orange Enthoo Primo, but was told they couldn't find them in the warehouse :-( ). Gotta do something about that, and then get it together.

    quick component check

Oops, it was more specificallyt the Define S i was thinking of (No need for lots of drive cages now, and I thought the space was nice). The GFX card is a 290X Vapor-X, so it also needs enough width for that. Thought I'd pretty much decided, but now i'm thinking of something like Gigabyte X99...

    quick component check

I did at one point have a watercooled Q6600 (with custom/thrown together bits). Worked quite well, but was a bit of a pain when moving about etc. On the other hand, as you say it is less ridiculously huge. I did actually have a look at the H1200 thread where setter mentioned getting better...

    quick component check

So, i'm looking at a new X99 system, and currently thinking about the following: Gigabyte X99 SOC Champion Intel X99 Intel i7-5820K Kingston Fury Black 32GB Alpenföhn Olymp Twin Tower High Performance CPU Cooler Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe I was thinking of the X99P...

quick question about NVMe drives and Linux

So, i'm deciding what bits to get for a new X99 system, and i'm thinking about getting a new M.2 boot drive. I was thinking about the 950 pro at the current price, but as I'm wanting to dual boot Windows/Linux, I just thought i'd check that the NVMe drives will be ok for Linux (It'll be...
