Need urgent help please, PC won't boot

I've looked at the other thread and think you should start by stripping the system down to the essentials - CPU, 1 stick of RAM, 1 HDD, graphics card, no unnecessary cards / peripherals. If it still doesn't boot then it is one of those core components and you can swap things out. If it boots...

Matched betting - who's done it and who's good at it? (No Referrals)

That is right, as (i) if you don't lay off you don't have to pay the commission at the exchange, and (ii) you're generally betting into shortening odds, so over time you tend to win at bookie and lose at exchange. But if you're not going to lay off then you need a big bankroll to ride out the...

Legacy G Suite users - what are you going to do?

Think I will have to pay too :( I only have one user account. It's not clear there is a better / cheaper option elsewhere, and TBH I set the G Suite account up 10 or 15 years ago, don't really remember how it all works "under the hood" and can't be bothered to unpick it all and re-establish it...

Legacy G Suite users - what are you going to do?

Filled out the survey and will see what is offered. Really don't want to pay for email, but not sure there is going to be an alternative elsewhere (if you want to use your own domain)?

Laptop 19v power adapter showing 18.66v on Multimeter - Problem?

I would say it's normal. It's less than 2% out, which is likely to be within tolerance.

Sky contract up in April, but need sky sports..

The Now TV app on LG TVs is 25fps only, which makes it rubbish for watching sport. I use a Now TV box which gives access to 50fps.

Declining Terms and Conditions on a TV

I would just connect it to the internet, accept the terms, update the software and then disconnect it (you could do it via ethernet cable and then physically disconnect). I don't understand how that creates a "digital footprint" in any meaningful sense? The only thing anybody could learn about...

Aghhh have I just killed my CPU? System inactive with the CPU in the socket and the level down..

Sounds like motherboard to me. Try it outside of the case, in case it is shorting on something. Also try it with a single stick of RAM installed. I wonder if working on the system with the power on might somehow have caused the problem or made it worse, especially removing and re-inserting the CPU.

    SKY internet dropouts

Read the whole thread, but it's unclear whether it's the DSL connection that's dropping out or the wi-fi. Which is it, as they are completely different issues? Can you go into the router settings and look at the uptime for the DSL connection?

Chinese media have started releasing compromising material on Joe Biden

Reliable source then. Oh wait, it's another far-right conspiracist nutter site.

    Monzo/Starling Banking/Revolut

I am a (small) investor in Monzo and agree with him. Monzo seems to be drifting rather than developing a sustainable business model. Charging £5 per month for a shiny card and features you can get for nothing with high street banks (interest, open banking, fee-free withdrawals) isn't going to...

Matched betting - who's done it and who's good at it? (No Referrals)

Sure you will get 10/10. Easy on horses or football correct score markets, or even match odds if you look carefully. You just have to take your time. You wouldn't take 23/32, it's throwing profit away needlessly. If you are going to do matched betting then you need to do more reading.

Distance from master socket to router - how much difference does it actually make?

15Mbps suggests you are about 1500m from the cabinet, assuming the line is working properly. So I wouldn't think another 6m will make any noticeable difference, unless you are using really really bad cable. If you have any phone extensions connected, you're more likely to improve your...

    LibreSpeed open source speedtest

Doesn't seem accurate to me. I got 67.3Mbps, which is higher than my sync speed (I usually get about 62).

TSB - Interest Rates on Plus Account now at 0%

I read that the Treasury gives NS&I a target for how much money to raise (saving with NS&I is basically lending money to the government). The accounts have become so popular that the target has been reached - hence they are cutting rates.

New to pc building - worried about replacing ssd and memory in new pc

On the other hand, HDDs are noisy and more prone to failure. If I had the opportunity not to have a spinning disk in the system then I would be tempted to take it, especially given the amount of money already spent. How much storage for photos and documents do you actually need?

*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

VHT80 in theory doubles the maximum speed (866Mbps vs 433Mbps, although you won't see either of those in practice), but VHT80 is more vulnerable to interference. If you don't need more speed then VHT40 may give a more reliable connection and slightly better range. Worth experimenting. I think...

    BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Are you sure it is an ADSL2+ line? The max observed upstream speed of 9.86Mbps suggests it is VDSL2, you can't get that upload speed on ADSL. What is listed above WBC ADSL2 on the Openreach checker? Anything for VDSL?

*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

On the access points, what channel width are you using for the 5GHz radio? If it is 40Mhz (VHT40) then try increasing it to 80Mhz (VHT80). This should give you more speed, although at the cost of less resistance to interference. The SH3 may be using 80Mhz by default, hence the higher speeds.

    My Official £50-£46,000 betting challenge

You don't need a formula - you just bet your full balance (including previous days' winnings) on a 1/100 shot each day. But the calculation is £1000 * (1.01^695) = £1,007,755. Don't do this, you will lose £1,000, probably inside a couple of months. 1/100 shots lose all the time (especially at...
