    New gearbox after 25k miles

Worth checking if it has been mapped. Might have caused premature wear and tear. Mini should have checked it but I know someone who bought an M2 from BMW used, and later found out it had been remapped - they’d failed to notice. Bought the car back off him.

Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I haven’t but the NA nature of the engine means you’re gonna have to rev it out a lot. My 3.4 requires 4K RPM before much happens. If you want a weekend only car, I can see how the 2.7 would be better. As a daily, the 3.4 will be better suited to road use and is easier to find in high...

    Spec me a fun 2+2

Great car but cabin build quality isn’t as good as an M2.

5 series is a better car but the G20 is a really nice cabin also. Personally, 25k will get you into a nice 330i, which will be cheaper than a 5 series on warranty. I’d go M Sport at least. M sport plus pack will offer adaptive dampers - it’s a very smooth ride. Recognisable by the “adaptive”...

I’d definitely be in a 718 4.0 GTS for that money. Still a track weapon but great road car. Very compliant and nicer to drive than a 911 in my experience.

    Ant's, what really kill's them.

I’m guessing you don’t just mean that if you boil some water near them, as part of some spooky ritual all the while chanting “I call upon Zefan to slay these foul creatures” they’ll miraculously die?

    Remapping worth it?

You make a good case. But the differences must be tiny - not sure if a proper remap would offer a decent return on investment, and I still think efficiency improvement would be tiny compared to driving style/environmental/tyres.

    Remapping worth it?

Because: Throttle pedal mapping - you’re used to adding a given input to accelerate, likely to use more power more often More power available - when accelerating flat out you’ll be using more fuel Haven’t ever seen any reliable data to prove that remaps make a car more efficient...

    Remapping worth it?

It might technically, it won’t realistically. You’ll be driving quicker all the time, hence using more fuel. Easier way to improve economy is keeping tyres inflated properly and accelerating/driving more smoothly.

Coming from a Fiesta I don’t think it’d bother me that much :p I also rinse through fuel in my Boxster But you’re right in that it is another appealing aspect of the 320d. Trip to Edinburgh and back on a single tank is doable. I’m in discussion with BMW about one which is well specced for...

    Opinions on Car Change

I’d say LSD and Birds B1 over remap. The M135i is plenty quick and limited by traction IMO

Yeah that's what a lot of people said, but it drives really really nicely. Averaged 77 mpg on the test drive too. My local journeys are no more than 10 miles each way, and with a 37 mile quoted range, from memory, it should be enough to cover them. But as mentioned, range reduction is more...

I don't think they'll be in budget for the spec I want unfortunately, as I've also heard they significantly improve the gearbox feel as well, much like the 330e.

X3 M40x = X3 with nice engine and some driving enhancements (LSD I think on some cars) This is the same as an Sx from Audi. It's a quicker normal car. SQ5/S5 has a V6 turbo (or did before diesel), the proper RS5 has suspension upgrades, LSD and a twin turbo V6. Similar on paper, very different...

Managed to get a 320d to test drive yesterday. I'll start with the elephant in the room. The gearbox exhibits the same challenges I've experienced in every ZF gearbox (and torque converter) I've used/owned, namely: Jerkiness at junctions/roundabouts when accelerating away while still moving...

Looking at a 330e and in the health check for the car, it’s throwing up error code 21f1f6 This seems to relate to HV battery issues post crash. It isn’t being flagged up as having been in an accident. Car seems well priced for the spec. This is through a (non BMW) dealer. Gut is saying...

Did you take it in the first time while it was under warranty? BMW do stipulate to take their cars in as soon as you have an issue, when in warranty, to avoid bigger bills in the future. If they didn’t rectify while under warranty, I would push them to do so now.
