    **Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I need to replace all 4 on my 2012 Mazda 3 195/65 R15 95V. I had planned Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, but MICHELIN CrossClimate 2 are only £40 more. Worth it?

Anyone else finding the cost is normalising? I now look at the IHD before going to bed and go "Yep, spent £10 today, normal day". 2 months ago I was all "*%&$ we've spent £10. No heating, cooking or washing for the rest of the week"* * Clearly didn't get my own way as Im still married :p

Second this for L&C. John Charcol were also very helpful. Both are fee free so worth talking to.

    Current draw of radiator fans?

I can't wait to need to add back ventilation! At the moment close any internal door and there's a steady draught under it, which changes depending how windy it is outside. And this is after filling in the random holes into the cavity/vented floor that don't align with an airbrick. What's left...

    Current draw of radiator fans?

Yes car radiator fans lol. I want to build one of these to find the remaining air leaks in my house https://renewableheatinghub.co.uk/forums/insulation/diy-blower-door-testing and everyone talks about car radiator fans without saying about the power source. Guess a car battery is going to be the...

    Current draw of radiator fans?

I'm planning to repurpose a dual fan radiator cooler as a high-volume fan and can't find any numbers for what current they draw. I know they are 12V so am thinking a laptop PSU can power it, but will it provide enough amps?

Is anyone else missing electricity Smart Meter data for 4 January from Octopus? Gas data is showing up.

The market is also murky. There is no independent standard for infrared panel heaters. Sellers love to shout "100% efficient" as electric heating but there's no meausre of how much IR their panel outputs vs standard convection heating, or how far their IR travels. Austria is supposed to be the...

Usage for December 2022 with 2021 in brackets: Gas 2311kWh (2236kWh) Elec 316kWh (340kWh) Bill yet to arrive but looks like £350 + standing charge. For the first month since September the Octopus forecast was right. Fingers crossed for a warm January

This wasn't an air brick. Some **** rewired the house by knocking out bricks or half bricks and dropping cables down the cavity. The next rewire drilled an inch diameter hole next to the knocked out brick and dropped the cable through that

Congratulations on getting all that done, cutting down draughts makes such a difference. I took some floorboards up over Christmas chasing down a draught and found half a brick missing letting air in from my cavity. Will keep chasing down more leaks!

Pipework leak in ceiling, how to locate?

Any artex on the ceiling? If so you've got another problem going that way (whether asbestos is present or not). If any artex is wet and starting to come off, time to get your insurers involved.

    Radiator sizing software?

The Steelrad calculator is good like that; you have to select the materials for each wall, type of door etc: Edit: The ceiling choices miss an option for downstairs room with heated room above. I have had to guess the type as the house is rendered. The 1920s part has cinder block inside...

    Radiator sizing software?

After this cold spell I'm trying to work out what size radiators I need in this house as I think the current ones are undersized. I've been using https://app.starsapp.co.uk/ from Steelrad but it's clunky and slow to use. And it gives 2 heat loss figures for each room that are a factor of 2 out...

I've already done that with a borrowed FLIR camera; I found it v hard once you get past the obvious leaks. Like is it an air leak I can fix, or a cold surface, or a tiny air leak that the camera doesn't pick up because it's not high enough resolution/fast flowing enough?

I had an earful from my parents when they visited the previous day, so on 13 Dec I tried to run the heating "properly". This is a 4 bed detached and it reached 18 degrees in the lounge. 150kWh of gas and 19kWh electricity (mostly oil filled radiators). Looking forward to the external...

Not yet, it really needs doing. Those closest to the boiler kick out a lot of heat. Also need to do radiator sizing calculations and work out what each room should have. Anyone done that?

We've used £17 gas today for heating & hot water. some rooms got up to 18C but most stayed at 15-16C. Completely unbalanced temperatures between rooms even adjusting TRVs. Been off for a couple of hours and now 13C in the bedroom which is a degree warmer than last night.
