photos were edited on my macbook, it's not been calibrated so can understand that processing might look a bit "extreme". The dark contrast and saturation are deliberate however.
EDIT: now calibrated :)
Have to say after all the opinions on the first image, yes it does look rubbish. I only...
Usually I tend to agree, the better the image in camera the less is needed with PP work, and it feels great to have gotten the capture right at the start.
This is more about showing what can be done with software like Photoshop, and i'm amateur at best!
Here is another one; taken in Hong Kong last year. Major cropping as this was originally taken portrait. Cropped to retain the bottom half of the image then added a gradual lens blur in PS but cutting out the girl so she remained in focus. Then upped the contrast+saturation. Bam!

Thought I would start a thread to post comparisons between RAW negatives and you're final processed image.
Sometimes the shot you get out of camera quite simply sucks, and it's amazing what a bit of PP can do to turn a bad or so so image into something worthy of showing.
To start off, this...
wow, i'm impressed by the sharpness and DOF you get from that compact.
I recently bought a Sony TX7 cheap for those times when dragging the SLR around isnt practical, and it's performance is a far cry from that of the Canon. Having used a cheap Nikon Coolpix before i just assumed all compacts...
wow...just WOW!
I love the amazing depth in those images, and that's just from viewing what is really a compressed JPEG on my 13'' laptop screen.
I'm sure printed blow ups of those images would look astounding
to the OP - did you buy cheap tickets going at the moment with Air Asia? I saw really cheap flights with them from KL to all over Asia.
Also, Does anyone know how much it is to do the whole panmunjom tour of the DMZ? I'd be curious in doing that if I went to Korea
I recently lost the eye cup to my camera too and left it till a trip to Hong Kong to replace it.
I believe it cost no less than 3-4 quid for the copy version and there is NO difference imo between this and the official canon version. It's only going to get lost again at some point anyway!
I would imagine that most people investing in L grade lens who then sell on would have taken very good care of them.
All but one of my lens (50mm 1.8) were bought second hand from London camera exchange who I find are quite honest in pointing out problems with lens e.g allignment and scratches...
Same way i feel about my Canon 1000d, such an inexpensive SLR, but coupled with the right lenses it can produce brilliant shots. I wouldnt say no to a 1d Mark III however :)
a few from my day today in Hong Kong. I didnt want to shove my camera into the faces of the beggers, so decided to turn the badly framed and underexposed pics into lomo type images. final one is long exposure near central station.
i use picasa online storage and it's excellent.
I love how you can edit a photo in photoshop, save it and then picassa auto update's it and uploads the changed copy to the webspace
