Its a nice card, just getting used to it after the Nvidia Soundstorm. Settings and interface is sort of neat, not too bloated or complicated.
The floppy disk connector is fine once fully inserted just like..er.. a floppy disk. I remember a similar issue on another card way back (perhaps a...
Xonar DX is not bad at all - fiddled around with the settings but left it on defaults. Seems to have a bit more oompf than Soundstorm, more detailed too and no issues getting the back speakers to work in a 5.1 analogue speaker setup. Nice but different.
Just in case this has not been mentioned I found that I was experiencing low volume and distortion through the speakers after an install.
I found that the power connector (used to power a floppy drive) was not inserted fully onto the card.. seems the power connector housing on the card can...
A few little teething troubles (the 'ole non-compatible Windows XP partition issue) but this little puppy is up and running with all 4-core goodness.. I like the low thrum of the Lian-Li case, very nice.
Thanks again for the suggestions!
Well, I've cleared a direct line of sight through to the half ajar front door.. and should I spot the slightest flutter of a courier card start to slip through as a letter I'm going to freakin' dive for that gap...
One just can't even begin to comprehend shunting a Lian-Li PC case on a...
Fun thread as I wait for that door bell today.. I particularly like the growing trend for couriers to charge extra for Saturday and timed deliveries after their normal attempts and their web sites' trend not to share local depot locations and numbers (to prevent pickups?) so they can get more...
As other posters have noted, speccing and building your own PC allows:
- sourcing and fitting best components at best prices
- in my experience, extends the life of the PC if built
- avoids getting crumby components with a pre-built machine
- process of speccing, building and fault...
Thanks for all the advice, excellent stuff! I like how coming down on some of the high spec stuff can make other things more affordable.
I'll probably get the soundcard later after getting the thing setup and stable.
Thanks all for the input!
I guess I could wait but then the new tech is likely to be top $$s and I usually upgrade with bits and bobs a couple of years later.. gotta get on the conveyer belt at some point!
So my basket will start to look like this? Any improvements, deletions?
About £700, will need a new graphics, memory and psu (probably do the Sonata case and psu combo) and may consider a sound card. I'd like to keep my larger IDE hard drives so will need IDE - SATA adapters if they exist? I'm staying with XP. Low power Q6600 looks interesting - looking for...
Well, everything must come to an end and although I lurrrve my little NForce2 Abit NF7-S chugging along with it is X1950 Pro staining at the leash and the Athlon 3200 wheezing and panting like an oversexed terrier its time to consider parting our ways.
Now, the joy of having this little...
BAH, just spent two days hacking at "that auction site"'s offering of 6-pin connectors with a fruit knife and cheese grator. One offering (the one with blue molex connections) sort of put my Antec power supply going into a fit.... BAH, BAH, BAH!!
Seems one of the pin connections is square...
