    Gaming PC upgrade advice

Based on old knowledge I would buy the best cpu I could afford but looking at the cpu market over the last 6 years progress has been slow enough that I think an i5 or an i7 would be good enough to last another 5 years. Thanks for this, exactly what I was looking for, didn't know where to...

    Gaming PC upgrade advice

The base of my system was bought in 2010, since then I upgraded to SSDs and a Nvidia 680 was added a long the way. I've waited and waited for a compelling CPU upgrade and each generation didn't seem worth it but I guess now there could be some decent gains? Not sure if it will affect gaming...

Netgears new VDSL / ADSL Modem Router with AC wireless (D6400)

I got this router yesterday as my HH5 was driving me up the wall. Pings to bbc/google dropped from 17ms on the HH5 to 8ms on the Netgear. WiFi range wise I haven't noticed any improvement over the HH5 but I didn't have a problem with that anyway. Currently would certainly recommend.

    netgear d6400 wireless problem

My late 2014 macbook pro is connected at around 700Mbps at the moment. I would post my config, but all I did was set my channels to the clearest band, disabled SSID broadcast, changed my password and my SSID - nothing special.

Upgrade path advice for a gaming pc

Thanks for the advice. Couple of questions: The Crucial M4 didn't get an amazing review from Anandtech for instance, according to Anand the sandforce controller is a higher performance part - I've read bad things about reliability but perhaps the Intel 520 resolves these? The 6970 is an...

Upgrade path advice for a gaming pc

I need to do a clean install on my PC due to some odd pausing issues in games and since I have to do that I was looking into what upgrades I could do to bring the performance up a little. Here is the current spec: Antec 650w Signature PSU Intel Core i7 860 2.80G s1156 Noctua NH-U12-DX 1GB XFX...

    help identifying products

He refers to the mouse as a prototype, it's an example of a mouse 2.0 design they are working on. The monitor is something like a Dell 2405, I don't think it's that exact model, but I stopped looking because judging by the base it is an old model anyway so you would have to buy an updated version.

    New PC Build

He said he got the card from a friend. The 8800GTX is going to be a bottleneck, but it depends if you are a gamer or not if this will really bother you that much. With 6GB of RAM just make sure you install 64bit windows otherwise it is pointless. It is unlikely to damage your pc, you just...

=== LAST DAY Left Before VAT Rises to 17.5% ===

What annoys me is all the items you see priced at 99.99 or xxx.99 right now. Since everything should be 2.5% cheaper there shouldn't be nice figures like that. So somewhere the retailers have all raised or lowered prices to make them look nice (surely the average consumer no longer feels any...

    BFG RMA question

Well I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, if you look at the full thread history it was about this time of year that Jeff went on holiday last year and things always get a bit slow over christmas no matter if you have full cover or not. If nothing happens after the 4th then I would start to...

    BFG RMA question

I have to do a test or two, but I believe my 7800GTX has failed as I am seeing the same symptoms as many users here (no video on boot, started off that some cold boots would have the symptom and resets would fix it now it happens all the time). I think I have an ancient ati 9600xt lying around...

    **Official i9 discussion thread ** Core i9 6 cores

You're describing a workstation for all intents and purposes there, not a desktop. In reality only someone with a lot of cash to throw around would buy a setup such as yours for what you are doing, most professionals would not be running a £1k processor either, they would just wait longer - it's...

    ** Silverstone Raven RV02 IN-STOCK NOW **

I bought a Lian Li V1000 some time ago which has the whole motherboard inverted to aid airflow. Since then motherboards started using heatpipes to cool thier power/southbridge/northbridge components and this kind of stopped me from being able to upgrade my system as the heatpipe design should...

It's Arrived - Art. Lebedev Studio Optimus Maximus Keyboard

That may seem like a good idea, but professional users of photoshop and the like learn the key commands off by heart if they need them. It's hard enough transitioning from a mac to a pc as the key commands change, learning to use the keys on your optimus at home would only add a new set of keys...

    New Gaming Mouse, Replace Habu

My Habu did this too, RMA'd to the retailer. You could potentially open the mouse and pull the cable into the mouse more and glue it if you want to try to repair it. I did this to my mx518 and it did fix the problem.

    Cisco IP Phone

Have you checked the power output of your switch ports with a multimeter? Perhaps it is just not giving out what it is meant to, could be a chipset change on the phone making it more marginal. Would be good to make sure the switch is all working ok if you are seeing the same problem with...

    Cisco IP Phone

Are you using a power over ethernet switch? I assume you are if some work, so have you tried plugging into a port that is currently working with a phone? If it doesn't work it may be worth checking if they changed the power draw requirements at some point and your switch doesn't have the juice...

Saitek Eclipse II OR Logitech G11 Keyboard?

I bought a Saitek II and had to replace it with a few months due to some keys not working anymore. You had to press them really hard to get them to work (something that other people had reported online when I searched). Also the back lighting is not even, much brighter some places than...
