I think the pixel refresher is for stuck pixels not totally dead ones might be wrong though Have you tried disconnecting from mains for a bit and then trying again ?

Can help if your laptop has a design that matches where the fans are on it and whatnot More height for more airflow can deffo help. But I think laptops are usually ok unless they are gaming ones or you put them on a soft surface that covers fans I used to have cooler master one ages back...
