Where did the desktop thread go?

Put a link to the old one and start this as a new thread? A few of the pics in the old thread are no longer hosted but might be good to refer back to for continuity :)

Thanks, I'll get it checked out :) - I'd never been entirely sure if this feature it was by design or accident - looking in the manual (several times) and searching the internet wasn't all that clear :/

Most efficient way to heat house (Combi Boiler)

I have a Logic Combi 30 in a small two bed house, currently with British Gas - it's a well insulated new build. At present I don't have the central heating on (although I have experimented with it) but I have the boiler set to pre-heat the hot water. For whatever reason, this also has the effect...

    A question... about EXT2...

^Also a discussion forum - there's a wealth of information which can end up being quite confusing ;p You are probably better comparing ext3 & ext4 with ntfs, as both ext3 & ext4 are journalised. Ext4 I think has support for ssd's. Ext2 is still used though. Of course plenty of information on...

Halifax invading my privacy or am I over reacting?

Does seem to be some very direct (and mildly annoying) marketing from Halifax - it's to promote their 'cashback extras' which you can disable in Cashback Extras -> Settings

    New build properties

New build properties can be more expensive than older properties, but repair bills can be kept to a minimum initially, and no need to worry about asbestos survey & removal (on older properties, where applicable) if you plan on doing any major works. My new build is pretty energy efficient and...

Valve Steam on Linux (no wine)

Good points methinks, although one additional benefit of Steam coming to Linux is it neatly ties together a lot of other games you might already have into one nice portable library across platforms. For me, Portal 2 is the big game that I want to see from Valve on Linux, and I can hardly wait...
