Metal scene is very much alive I would say. There is plenty of new bands around, and a huge amount of different styels of metal. It all come down to what sound you like.

Went for a local metal gig in Chelmsford on Thursday, a local band called Bearfist played. Never heard them before but my friend suggested we go there as our Bloodywood gig had been postponed. Had a great time and really enjoyed it :)

I saw In Flames at Scala in London on Sunday. Smallest venue I've seen them in (about 1100 capacity) but such a great intimate gig. Really enjoyed and great energy from both crowd and band. Next month I'm seeing Ghost at the O2 Arena, then two gigs with Devin Townsend at the Royal Albert Hall...

Melissa Bonny is great, her band Ad Infinitum is pretty good too and she has done some songs with Serenity too. Saw her live with Serenity some years back and she was great (the entire band was awesome too)

I'm insanely impressed by Nils van der Poels in the 5000m and 10 000m speed skating. He set a new world record on 10 000m with 2 seconds and he finished 14 seconds ahead of the 2nd place skater.. Absolutely awesome
