I went ahead an ordered a CPU - finally arrived and indeed that WAS the issue, all fixed now. Cheers for all the advice guys.

Originally was all in case - but now that i changed literally everything its half in the case and half hanging out... lol Ye CPU is literally the only thing I haven't tried, would a CPU failure potentially be causing this? I'm guessing so as im literally out of ideas on what else it could be...

I think i will retest the spare 500w PSU just in case then go from there.

Quick update Tried the new motherboard - same thing fans spin but turns off after 1 sec changed the h100i back to my h100 - same thing Tried the 500w PSU thats in the machine im on right now and it did the same thing. at this point im out of ideas.

At this point I'm thinking its the motherboard so I have gone ahead and ordered one.

I didnt connect the GPU.

Done the PSU test with a paperclip and it spins up fine.

There wasn't actually a boom sound i just added that for effect. I just connected the 24 pin and 8 pin power supply cables from this machines PSU to the faulty system and I'm getting the same thing, fans spin up and the system just shuts off.

Actually I have a Corsair CX 500w in this spare PC - would that be sufficient to use/test?

It did cross my mind to get a 2nd hand mobo 'cos i only play CSGO and it is a perfectly fine setup for that. I'll have a look around.
