    If all you did was take it off and put it back, it does sound like the mounting hardware isn't getting it close enough to the CPU? I presume the cooler's fan(s) are actually spinning?

    It's an x570 Tomahawk, but I think the case would have more of an impact than the mobo, as the position of the mounting screw holes are fixed.

    Wow, that's weird! I wonder if you could use the same USB to change the BIOS on 2 different motherboards? If not, that could really confuse people!

    Upgrading to a new CPU this year.

    I too upgraded from a 6600k this year, looks to be a common theme! In the end I failed to wait and got a 3800x at a good price, though :)
