More pay or less hrs? what would motivate you more?

Chased the money when younger, which was great at the time but once kids come along they help you see through all that. Time is what I chase now.

** The official Apple TV 4K thread (the 2021 model has a new remote and everything!) **

Won't know till it's released/someone get's their hands on one. Would bet there are a lot of people waiting to hear if apps can pass through Atmos/DTS-HD...

What kind of cable for 2.5GB networking?

Cat6. This will give you more than what you need currently speed wise, while covering any future upgrades to end devices/switches. I'd run more points now while you can also, at least on the path of the cable run from loft to lounge, even if just for redundancy. Cat6 is good for 10Gb up to ~50/55M.

    Windows 10

Having some random issues with 2004. Seem to have lost the inbuilt Windows Apps/Menu icons from the taskbar and Start menu. Also lost the file icons for various files too. Anyone else had this? I've cleared icon cache but still no go. It only happens for this user, Admin account is fine.

Netflix to cut streaming quality in Europe for 30 days

Netflix use a mix of AWS/S3 and their own open connect hardware for content delivery. Pre launch, all title packages are held in S3, then when ready for release they are deployed to their open connect CDN appliances across the globe, once there are enough clusters with enough copies of a title...

If they confirm all Simpsons series are available at UK launch, then I'll be very tempted.

Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Possibly basing it on the drives they sell & support currently? With all the 14tb shucking going on it would be crazy not to work with them. NOTE: The maximum storage indicated is aligned with the current HDD & SSD option list supported. Maximum internal storage supported would change with the...

Openreach Add 227 Rural UK Areas to FTTP Broadband Rollout Good news if you're connected to one of these exchanges, though be interesting to see how much of the area actually gets FTTP installed. Builds due to begin before March 2021.

    *** VPN Thread ***

Does anyone know of a working VPN service from within Dubai (or UAE)? Know they lock a lot of things like that down over there but my friends are just looking to access iPlayer if possible (they pay license fee on UK home, if an issue). They seem to be having trouble with finding one that...

Do you remember your first dial-up/local ISP?

Compuserve, then Freeserve for dial-up. Pipex for ADSL, smashing it with 256kb sync and an always on connection. Fun times.

How quiet is the PSU? Its the only thing that bugs me about my Microserver, as the original is quite loud.

Significant Increase in Salary – What to do?

Congrats on the new job (and extra cash). If you are sure about kids in the near future, then i would recommend travel, travel, travel. You never know if you will be able to later on in life. oh and obviously overpay on the mortgage to the limit, maximise pension contribution, get any debt in...

    Talking at work

Open office, hot-desking and skeleton staff left after redundancies, means you could be sat on your own all day if no one comes in to the office, so always grateful of any kind of chat.
