    Transferring configs

Also, your home directory and dot files within there (files starting . ) These are user files, whereas /etc is system wide - quite a lot of configuration is done on a per user basis. If you do a... ls -a ~ ...you'll see the dot files within your home directory. You may find some...

    been hacked / rootkit

Changing SSH port is OK.. but it's not really the answer. You need to find out HOW they got in.. if it was via SSH, it's not because it was on port 22, it's because something was exploited/username and password guessed etc. All changing the port does is stop people "stumbling" across the fact...

    Router box

I use m0n0wall on quite a high end setup.. and it's extremely good. I use it on a WRAP motherboard, and it's easily as stable as a Cisco ASA/Pix unit (although, throughput is a lot less)

    P4 805 Dual Core Fan.

The noise is fine when it's being normal.. as soon as it spins up to 4000+, it's just unbearable. That fan definetly won't fit into the case, hehe.

    P4 805 Dual Core Fan.

Hiya, Just installed a P4 805 Dual core with the standard heatsink/fan. Under CPU load, the fan spins up to about 4600rpm and sounds like a jumbo jet. I'm guessing the CPU is just getting hot so speedfan is cutting in. Has anyone else had this? Is it worth taking the heatsink off...

Yes it is. My Antec failed in my Sonata I too.. but I sent that back. Now I have this one.. and yes, it's failed in what seems to be the same way :(

    Antec PSU Warranty

Kind of.. depends which way you look at it - I've already paid once for a unit which didn't last like it should.. so I feel quite cheated at effectivly paying for another one (albeit at a discounted price) :) I know it'a in the terms.. it's just, the shipping is soooo expensive :( If it was...

    Antec PSU Warranty

Yep. I have a dead SmartPower here, RMA accepted etc.. Great, I thought.. until it was going to be £24 to send it back using Royal Mail. Best I've found up to now is £17+VAT from Parcelline I think. 2.1KG it is.. if it was less than 2KG, it'd be £10 or something. This thing is in an...

    SSH port forwarding

So they can only use port 80? Seems to me you need to just make the SSH server listen on port 80. ssh -L creates a tunnel, so say, you can goto http://localhost:8080/, and that gets forwarded, via an SSH tunnel, to the host you set the tunnel up too (effectivly sending everything via the...

Setting up VPN using two DG834s

I couldn't find any mention of it on Netgear's site! I can't believe they added it as it's in direct competition with their Prosafe range now.

    VPN for backup

The easiest way would be to setup a PPTP VPN Server on the Windows Server machine, then just connect in from Windows XP.. Best way would be to, as said above, have an IPSEC tunnel between two routers either end. :)

Setting up VPN using two DG834s

The DG834 doesn't do VPN? Only pass-through? I guess you are using XP's "VPN"? with a port forward setup to his PC.. TCP 1723?.. (I think Passthrough takes care of GRE etc..)

Very disappointed witht the 'Belkin 500VA Superior Series Emergency Battery Backup'

Hehe, that's good to know - I have my UPS behind an APC Surge Protector just to make sure. :D I'd rather a £10/£20 multiblock goes pop before my UPS  :p

Very disappointed witht the 'Belkin 500VA Superior Series Emergency Battery Backup'

My Belkin UPS (Universal 1000vA) is awesome.. one of the main reasons I chose it was because you can plug normal plugs into it. I run multiblocks off of mine.. so.. I've got 9 things plugged into it, 3 being PCs (one using quite a bit of power, too!). Has to hold it up for 10mins I'd say...
