I am looking to do this with a sky+ box not the HD one. I got the viewsonic vx2025 which has both dvi and vga. Would the picture be a bit rubbish just using a scart to vga adapter due to the native resolution of the monitor?

The way i see it is that all monitors are vista ready, but if you want to play blu-ray or HD-DVD on it your going to need a HDCP compatible monitor and the dell 2407 is.
