£1800 - any suggestions before I take the plunge?

Hmm, after a bit of research, it looks like the 6800K is actually either on a par with the 6700K for gaming, or better. And the extra cores will of course be useful for CAD and graphics work. So I'm now leaning towards X99 even though it's older tech - I just can't hold on for Z270 and Kaby Lake...

£1800 - any suggestions before I take the plunge?

Ah. That's thrown a spanner in the works! Thanks for the reminder on the CPU cooler - I had completely forgotten about that! :( I was steering away from socket 2011 on the basis that it would be old hat before long and the Broadwell processor is a generation behind Skylake. It feels like I'm...

£1800 - any suggestions before I take the plunge?

Hi guys and gals, I'm about to buy the parts for a new pc - it's been a LONG time since the last upgrade so just about the only thing that's remaining is the PSU which is modular and roughly 500W if I remember right. Can't remember what make it is, probably Corsair. The new build is going...

When in Autumn do you put your heating on?

I think the UK is pretty unique in this "Heating, what, NO!" attitude... My other half is Danish and so by rights, being a Viking, should be fully impervious to cold, but she thinks the British penchant for not turning the heating on is totally nuts. Our heating just comes on when the system...

    Bullies, at 5 years old

Maybe he should get into his boxing stance? :p It's a tough one, but I'd be trying to go the official route as you are. Think about having Tyler take up a martial art though - it'll give him the confidence to stand up to the bully and the control to not hurt him. Although this is an idea for...

    What do you live for?

I must have been depressed for most my life then :o I don't work 9-5, I'm self employed, choose my jobs, my hours, and have plenty of time off to spend with my mrs and son, and there's no way I'd want to be working for someone else tied to a Monday to Friday routine! But I still wonder...

Can You Solve 'The Hardest Logic Puzzle In The World'?

I've not read through the entire thread so not sure if I'm just repeating what others have said (I probably am). The original question asks what exactly is the new information given to the dragons, and that is that all the dragons now know that all the other dragons know that all the dragons...

    Why I hate DOTA2

The match making seems to weed out the "rerollers' for want of a better term. Some friends and I made new accounts to have a bit of fun with noobies after we'd started to get the hang of the game (actually I think it was to play with and teach another friend that had just started). Anyway, it...

    Learning Linux command line

I'm a vi man myself. I put off learning it for years and stuck with nano in the shell or kate or gedit in a DE, but when I finally really tried vi it was a breeze :) Now i often find myself trying to use commands like cw or . in Openoffice! Oh, and to get to grips with the shell, just dive in...

    ***The Official HTC One Thread***

Just received my One from HTC (Expansys) but it's not as good as the one I had for a week from Vodafone... That one was absolutely perfect, but I realised that I should never have left Three to go to Vodafone, their network is appalling! So i returned the handset and cancelled my contract and...

Brought a tear to my eye thinking of my gran who died last year. She would have been 15 when this was filmed and living in London. Thanks for the link!

Will the tax man hunt me down next year?

Not quite, it would be taken out of his wage spread over an entire year by adjusting his tax code for the next year (which, incidentally, is what last year has to do with this year, and this year with next year)

Will the tax man hunt me down next year?

If there is any slight difference in what you've paid vs what you owe then it'll be taken care of by an adjustment in your tax code for next year, so no, they won't be chasing you. Chances are it'll be spot on though - as you earn more, they take more tax, hence Pay As You Earn, PAYE ;)

    1.5 Million in the bank

You don't pay any tax on dividends. The money has already been taxed at corporation tax rates when the company earned it (or rather when they made profit).

How much would a new boiler cost from British Gas?

It wasn't BG but NPower, but I believe the pricing is similar...I was quoted over £2500 for a straight swap using a boiler that I could buy for £550 inc VAT!!! Get a local plumber to do it for you - you'll save a packet, and on top of that, I only ever hear bad things about BG installs from...
