TBH I expected a socket change and don't begrudge it for Threadripper. Look at what the new chipset provides and it's pretty cool as a way to get new tech tested and ready.
A little disappointed I have no upgrade path, but at the same time not really, they look fantastic. Just means I postpone...
They do to a point. Willing to bet there's much higher margin's on the AMD products so they are making bank while they can. Something I don't begrudge them as they need a warchest to fight the future.
However Intel will flex the undercut power next year and that will reduce AMD's profits a bit...
I'd disagree on the good time to build.
Memory is good, but GPU's suck, way overpriced and low perf for the money. RTX 3K and the upcoming Navi cards should fix that, but that's mid next year at least. CPU's are expensive currently because AMD can get away with it and Intel are still promising...
It's not hugely optimistic. The reports of the Zen 3 test samples that have released are literally saying a 200MHz improvement plus 8% IPC so far. Which is in line with what I stated above.
It should also be noted that by that time MS may indeed have sorted out the scheduler problems, hopefully...
Theoretically a 4.8GHz Zen 3 part will roughly equal a 5.4GHz Coffee Lake in single core. Obviously smashing Intel's offerings in multi-core. (using CPUz benchmark as a guide test)
None of Intel's parts upcoming seem to equal that performance either despite claims of 8% IPC increase for Sunny...
Yeah I had another CPU to test with so socket was ruled out immediately. Had two similar systems being made together so was able to rule out all issues encountered with both systems. Managed to find out one set of memory was definitely lesser than the other too, Corsair only capable of 3733MHz...
I can't OC this card ATM, will do so after I move house. Hopefully I should get a good water block for it and see if it helps. Currently I think it's a bit crap with the current cooler or it's got a problem and needs to be RMA'd.
Oh it was well after there was enough info out to do it right. Zero tech tuber's I've seen got it right though. Even GN didn't, he still thinks pretty much zero gain with mem OC on Vega, cos his 56 didn't OC on mem at all. My 1150MHz on mem was a crap load of perf :D
When he did the Vega56 OC, he did the classic whack power to max and then stick Core to Max and Mem to Max in Afterburner. While AB still didn't have support for Vega properly...
There's a reason using OverdriveNTool was better for Vega. I miss that, Navi is just a bitch to OC as there's no...
He's shown many times that he hasn't the foggiest when it comes to Ryzen and even trying to OC Vega which is a challenge at the best of times. He's gotten into overclocking just using simple tools like Afterburner and hasn't really learn't the more complicated stuff. I'd have expected his LN2...
However this is a clear case of Jay not having a clue and instead of going to MSI and saying look I'm seeing something odd with this (like most people would with a faulty product), he made a video lambasting AMD and MSI making himself look like a total tit.
None of this little storm in a teacup...
Honestly the 1% on Intel would be more worrying.
Also highlights that he does more negative work on AMD than Intel. He's done some on Intel but usually has a bunch of excuses in there, whereas with AMD he just rants like the video that got him in hot water.
Not so easy in Australia. To go through RMA most of the stores will test first before sending back to manufacturer, if they conclude there's no issue (without testing beyond sticking in a mobo and testing idle temps normally) then it never gets to back to the manufacturer to do a proper test.
I...
