    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

What are the planned processors for next year? Is it just Zen 2 and next Intel refresh? Are they expected to be a significant improvement over the current offerings? I wasn't sure regarding the RAM if there was any point in going for the 3600mhz as I've read most games don't use much over 2600...

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

@4K8KW10 thanks for the suggested build and advice. I am aware that my 2500k will not be able to put up with new games for much longer, so I guess I will have to make a decision as to, do I hold out as long as possible with my current setup, or do I just get the upgrade done now. I will have to...

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

That was just in Far Cry, quite a limited test I know. Well, I did actually monitor in Assassin's Creed Origins, but that is pretty much pointless with their optimization issues, etc. I agree, maybe the best option is to see how the system runs with the 1080 ti and go from there; the pricing of...

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

It would be the FTW ICX if I were to go for a GPU with my current build. Common sense is telling me to see how it goes with a new 1080ti and my new 1440p monitor, but I also think, I will eventually need to upgrade at some point as my system will no doubt start to struggle soon. The last time I...

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

I have a: Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 and Fractal Design R2 case It's the motherboard clearance that's the issue, a bigger GPU blocks the SATA ports.

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

I do agree, that would be the most sensible option. Although this would all but limit me to the EVGA 1080ti, as it's the only one that has any chance of fitting onto my current micro ATX board. If I decide the the EVGA is the card I want anyway then there is no harm in doing what you suggested i...

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

Would that be a better route to go down? More CPU power, with less RAM speed. From previous experience I've always ended up going i5 over i7, as I thought the extra price didn't justify the small performance gain, is this still true?

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

This is why I'm leaning towards the i5, even though Ryzen has more cores and threads, as I mostly game and the i5 and 1700x are similarly priced.

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

Ok thanks. I will look into better coolers after I've got the build together I think. Yeah I thought so, looks enough clearance on that board anyway so should be good.

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

Thanks for the replies, thanks @southernorth for the baskets. I am edging towards the Intel build as this is what I've always done and it seems the i5 has better clock for clock gaming performance. Also the Ryzen and Intel build come in at roughly the same price so I'm guessing it's down to my...

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

It's the "in" thing, how else can we see our shiny components if it doesn't light up in 7 million different colours :D

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

You are right! After a bit of digging I can see it is RGB, that's that problem solved. If it's anything like Gigabytes previous mobo's then I'm sure it will be reliable aswell, looks like a good contender then :D

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

Cheers for the link, like you say, shame about the orange theme as I currently have a blue LED lighting theme, but suppose it could be changed, not too much of a hassle if it came to it.

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

I should have said, the PC is primarily used for gaming, a mixture of all kinds of games. Other than that it's just the usual windows applications and internet streaming, etc. No photo/video editing, etc. @ExRayTed so the Intel is the better option for gaming then. I had assumed that the extra...

    1080TI, will it fit?

I should have mentioned that I have an SSD for the OS, an SSD for my games and a 500gb HDD for my media, etc :)

    Ryzen or Coffee Lake

Following on from my other monitor and GPU threads, I've come to the conclusion that a build upgrade is needed. I will list my current build for reference: Gigabyte GA Z68 I5 2500k @ 4.2ghz ( 212+ cooler) 16gb corsair ddr3 Gtx 970 msi Xfx 700 psu AOC 24" I have on order a 1440p 144hz 27 inch...

    1080TI, will it fit?

Yeah that makes sense, so it will just about fit then, the EVGA one that is. Although, I have got my PC upgrade head on now, so have been frantically scouring sites, looking for the best upgrade path! :D

    1080TI, will it fit?

Right, I think i'm convinced to upgrade my build, it has served me well since 2011 (apart from the GPU and PSU). So now I have a decision to make; do I go Coffee Lake or Ryzen? I've always been Intel and never AMD, but the Ryzen is priced very competitively and I think the i7 8700k is out of...

    1080TI, will it fit?

Thanks for all the replies. Since posting, and as suggested I have found out that the Evga FTW is a dual slot with the same 3.5cm measurement as my current 970 so theoretically it should fit, although I'm slightly worried that it may interfere with my RAM slot clips above - as the 1080ti has a...

    1080TI, will it fit?

https://imgur.com/a/ywmiT As the title says really, I'm looking to upgrade to a 1080ti, and it is more than likely going to be a 3 slot card. With this is mind, am I going to struggle to fit the 1080 in? If it's possible to tell from the picture I've linked? Build is: Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 I5...
