    Youtube adverts

So much this. I preferred when the ads were boxes at the bottom … so much less intrusive.

    ARM is coming.

I wish they would split off a fresh clean windows OS platform. Ground up, no old chaff, no crap old backwards compatibility, no old backend hidden by new skins. It’s all so messy and clunky cause it’s dragging its history behind it.

    Massive Car insurance costs?

Some cars you can go through a short process to disable the keyless entry. I’ve done it on mine, as frankly I’ve always thought it was a rubbish idea.

Is murder sometimes not murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility?

I think that even in the cases of mental health such as exampled above, it should still stand as a prosecution of murder . I don't think I fully agree with the 'responsibility' part of diminished responsibility because irrespective of mental health, the actions of a person are what is...

what is the best way to review large number of photos

Yes, you can do that within the windows explorer in the details view, and adding the date taken column to the window to bring that out to sort. Failing that, I suppose it’ll be date created as a starter. I’d start by organising years first into folders, then breaking each of those down into...

    Unraid, FreeNAS, OpenMediaVault, etc...?

Hmmm…. Not really sure how I feel about the extension pricing thing after just one year. Seems a bit of a cash grab.

what is the best way to review large number of photos

I import/ copy my images onto the pc and save them in a folder format named: YYYY MM DD - summary title And all those folder sit in a top “Pictures” folder on the drive. Then from there will import it into LR or what ever. If I’m backing up the phones, then I copy all the images into a...

Intel's Tom Petersen: inside video codecs

First time I’ve been able to understand how a modern codec works. To be fair to Petersen, I do like how he tries to engage people with being open around how things work. OK, it’s Intel biased, but it is interesting.

What do gamers actually think about Ray-Tracing?

I think RT will be supplemented by the AI stuff in the next decade rather than being all out RT … and that there will become a balance of the game engine generating the bulk of the 3D world, RT flinging a skim pass at the lighting and environment, and this being the prompt information for AI...

How often do you use a pen or pencil to write?

Pens and pencils all the time. I prefer pencils to write mostly … then fountain pens, then ballpoint.

Removing POA from someone who is unfit for the role

A quick google for me suggests that the POA can be challenged, but because you are outwith the donor ( GIL ) and the attorney ( the son ) then it can cost you to make a challenge, and I expect that you would need a significant body of evidence. Your GIL can challenge without cost apparently...

Can you resize a photo on an iPad ?

The Snapseed app i find can be decent enough for resizing. Open an image in it, edit / crop as needed, then export a copy of the image ( the original will remain unchanged if you just exit without saving it over itself ). Within the settings of the app, you can select a range of export sizes...

Apple's HUGE cancelled SoC from Project Titan

Probably set themselves a set of targets ( like processing positions per second ) which ended up requiring a ludicrous amount of cpu processing power. I also wonder about how much power it would have chewed. 7x 4090 power usage …. Even a low power version would chew a ton of wattage out of...

    1D mk3 to what?

I had a canon 6D … loved it, but slow narrow focus area was a pain sometimes. Moved to an 80D for the faster focus tracking and locking, but felt it missed the actual focus a lot … dont know what it was, but it never ever achieved the same clarity as the 6D when both had been using the same...
