it’s a knifes edge they walk though. I’ve been waiting for a 7950x3d restock since launch and am near the end of my patience. At some point in the coming week or two I am going to just say ’screw it’ and pick up a 13700k or 13900k which are all readily available.
No definitely not. About the most fiddling I will do would be to manually assign affinity for any software that shows an egregious mismatch between core allocation.
The 13900K was definitely under heavy consideration for sure. But ultimately I was swayed by two things:
1. the 7950's...
Not to throw gasoline on the fire, but if I was eyeing a 34" QD-OLED I might wait a bit. Samsung, the sole provider of the 34" QD-OLED panel, announced the Gen2 version of this panel at CES in january. According to their literature it will be twice as durable as well as better image quality...
The 'controversy' regarding the 7950X3D vs the 7800X3D is really rather boggling to me. Definitely one of those 'internet why do you always have to be so internet' moments...
To me it's fairly clear cut and hardly rocket science... from a gaming perspective performance between the 2 cpus is...
I am perhaps a titch disappointed as as a new system buyer I was hoping for a true 'no brainer' decision. That said I don't really see a reason to go with a 13900K over the 7950X3D, and hopping on the AM5 platform gets me a cooler/more efficient system with an upgrade option 3 or 4 years down...
Guilty as charged :)
The extra couple of hundred amortized over the life of the system doesnt even make me blink. Not to mention that I do like to have as much punch as possible for those rare occassions where I want increased non-gaming performance.
I cant honestly remember the last time...
No I dont think this would be the case. I think the enthusiast segment would quite readily switch for a demonstrably superior card. I know I absolutely would.
The masses follow the enthusiasts but it's not a quick or immediate process. For the masses to switch you need the mindshare and that...
I've seen this bandied about from the pro-AMD camp for a while now and I find it a lazy excuse. The fact of the matter is that if AMD wants to pull people away from nvidia they cant be 'close' or even equivalent to nvidia's offering, they have to be clearly and decisively better. In at least a...
This looks almost identical to what I am putting together. Dont suppose you would post/link some pics with the fans and card lighting active? Trying to determine if it's worth it to put rgb fans on the bottom since the card looks like its going to block them almost completely out...
1440p UW at 45" is just.... such a miss it boggles my mind.
Had they gone 4K ultrawide it would have been a personal instant buy. Heck I probably would have given it serious consideration at even 3840x1600 (~94 ppi) but 3440x1440 is simply a complete non-starter.
I would disagree. The 4090 is the first card that is crushing 4K Full raytracing... but you still need to have DLSS enabled. Previous gen was 4K/60... more or less... with RT enabled WITH DLSS.
We are still *multiple* generations away from having high refresh 4K RT without any DLSS/FSR
The Digital Foundry hate from circles is pretty amusing. I find their content overall actually very good, and their takes generally quite reasonable.
But then some circles accuse the Hardware Unboxed guys of being nvidia shills too, sooooo in summary the internet is going to internet i guess...
Got to be honest, while I have been oscillating between the 7900XTX and 4090, I think I am settling more on the 4090 as my #1 choice. The very large caveat however is that 4090's are ridiculously difficult to get in North America, impossible really at the moment, and I certainly will not scalp...
Obviously way to early to tell but if I'm looking at 7900XTX's within two or three hundred of a 4090, well then I'm just going to get a 4090. Same issue with the 4080 pricing. The power/attractiveness of the 7900XTX is its value pricing vs the 4090's.
