Automate the Boring Stuff Python Course Free

Nice one. Code expires tonight. But you get the course for life, so worth signing up even if you might not complete it for a while.

    Pension stuff

Does anyone know of a standardised form, or template, for claiming higher rate tax back on pension contributions? I dont do a self-assessment, and all the gov.uk site says is you must let HMRC know, so they can work out the sum they owe. But they don't even say what information is required. Any...

Git Client & File/Folder Comparison Apps

I'm coming from windows and SourceTree, I've yet to find anything I get on as well with. Fork has no linux client. SublimeMerge is new, and worth a look. I feel it still feels a bit beta to me, give it a year or two and it'll be bang on. Certainly not as polished as SublimeText. Tempted to...

    Why so many distros

Also, there are different goals. Wildly different goals. From full on desktops, to server farms, to embedded systems. Then each of those can be broken down to sub goals, fast desktop just for internet access, fully featured desktop for graphical design work. The list goes on. And then you can...

    Dust filter

Recently built up a mini-itx. It has a single 120mm fan at the back, which i've reversed to make it an intake. It's the only intake fan on the system. Everything works fine, but I'm looking at adding a dust filter to it somehow. Just wondering what the best method would be. Presumably some...

    2700x mini-itx build - thoughts

Ha, all I really need is a text editor. I think I'm going to go with the W3100 as its small enough to allow me to get a full size ATX psu, rather than a sfx one. Works out cheaper overall. I also quite like the idea of cards that have pro level quality from a driver point of view, and it gives...

    2700x mini-itx build - thoughts

Ah, one thing that I've not mentioned so far, and probably should have, is that I'll be running Linux. Does that change the landscape regarding graphics cards, from a driver point of view? @BongoHunter, agree regarding your thoughts on matx, but really after keeping it smaller than even the...

    2700x mini-itx build - thoughts

The 1st monitor is going to be 43inch, the ET430K. The second one, as it stands is the U2412M. Definitely staying with the Ryzen line, will be looking to upgrade to more cores with a 3xxx or 4xxx. Presumably 10bit not really useful day to day, unless doing something that needs it. Would it...

    2700x mini-itx build - thoughts

Ah, so now we have a number of graphics card suggestion. so who's going to tell me the 'best'? P400 RX570 GTX1050 WX3100 Looks like the 1st and last both have the lowest power consumption. This is good in my book, as its a small case. I wont be gaming at all, but will be looking at connect 2 x...

    2700x mini-itx build - thoughts

@Mhz400, Yep, I had considered power dissipation from the cpu. The case (unlike many mini-itx ones) will take a large after market heatsink, which I was planning to get if the noise was an issue. Most of the time, it will be at idle, with the occasional full out burst of activity. Was just...

@OW, nice one. Thats actually really interesting, and given me the push to actually understand some of the other technical threads. If feel educated. Though the decision is not getting any easier ;-)

ncase m1 vs raijintec metis plus

@Kurgen, thanks for that. Yep, had looked at it. But ruled it out as being too big. It's massive in comparison to the Metis Plus. Really looking for something small.

    2700x mini-itx build - thoughts

Ha, shows how little I know. More homework needed. GFX: When I last upgraded a desktop pc, about 10 (or more) years ago, the gfx cards that were sold as "business" focused produced noticeably better 2d/text images. Those sold as "gaming" cards, while obviously fast in games, produced poorer...

    2700x mini-itx build - thoughts

Looking to upgrade from an ageing laptop, i7-3270qm + 16gb, no gfx, to a more capably work machine. Mostly software dev (current builds takes approx 1hr), with the usual office stuff thrown in. Not planning to overclock, except will push the memory to the 3200 sweetspot. Will be likely to...

ncase m1 vs raijintec metis plus

Yep, many of the reviews talk about poor air flow, especially in the original metis (non-plus) version. Much of this looks like it caused by the case fan blowing the wrong direction by default, and being cured by reversing it. So gives the impression that airflow wasn't given much thought...

ncase m1 vs raijintec metis plus

@crgnclsn, The system is for s/w dev. So high end cpu with plenty of grunt, lots of ram for that. The gpu needs to support 3 monitors, at least one (more in the future) will be 4k. Wont ever game on it, just the dev and net/office use etc. So no 3d requirement. @momo, I thought that might be...

    Ryzen 3x

Praz94, could you define "good mobo"? Also, worth considering the ram you buy. The current Ryzens support 2933, but its likely that the 3's will up that a bit. Though I've not seen any guesses as what it might go to, assume 3200 at the minimum.
