    House - Historic Movement

It's always worth having a survey on a property of this age to pick up other issues such as damp, but they won't go into detail and will most likely recommend having a structural engineer in to inspect it further. I went through all of this with my first house, an 1880s end terrace with 2...

    RIP forum member Jono

It's sad that after several years away from this place, I'm brought back here twice in as many months to pay respect to a friend. Jono was such a kind soul who always saw the funny side of things, even when faced with the most horrific news. He certainly taught me a few things about making the...

    OCUK founder Spie passes away

I couldn't believe it when I read the message from Claire this morning :( Such a tragic loss. Mark was a genuinely nice guy, who had helped me out in the past and I feel honoured to have called him a friend. His legacy will certainly live on. My heart goes out to his loved ones at this...

    Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

Ran Ashby 20 today. It's still 9 weeks until my marathon, but the race is a cracker and it's on my back doorstep. I usually train around there on my longer runs, so the hills don't tend to phase me. I was so anxious this morning as I've had a knee injury for a year now and although it appears...

    Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

Can't stand treadmill running. For me, the enjoyment of running comes from being outside in the fresh air. If I can't do that, I'm really not interested. Even in the snow, I'm out there in my XC shoes :) Anyway, 16 mile training run today at a steady pace. Longest run since last Feb when my...

    Summer Sun, but where?!?!?!?!

Rhodes Town. Lovely place. Old town - UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plenty of places to eat & drink. Tonnes of things to do, especially if you hire a car and drive all over the island. Only downside is that there are no beaches in Rhodes town, but if you hire a scooter you can easily reach one.

If you dont like the smell of something you wont like the taste of it.

Utter tosh! Roquefort stinks to high heaven, but tastes delightful, as does parmesan

    Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

Woah!!! Respect :) How did day 4 go? Are you doing the Windermere 10 in 10 by any chance? A mate is in training for that and started the quad marathon, but had to pull out on the first day.

How do you Have your Weetabix?

:( I might just bin them. They're taking up valuable cupboard space ;) Apparently his thinking was "nobody really likes Weetabix" so he got me a more exciting version. Tch!!!

How do you Have your Weetabix?

What a top quality thread ;) I was bought some golden syrup weetabix by a well-meaning friend last month when I forgot how to eat... they are still in the cupboard and will be palmed off onto guests. I really don't like sugary breakfast cereals. Bizarre because I'd kill for a piece of toast...

    Kinesio Tape

Well it was the quickest training run I've done for almost a month, but not purposefully so. I wasn't looking at my watch and took the first mile deliberately slowly. I must have just felt good. A few twinges, but nothing major really. Now whether that's because I've rested it for a week or...

    Kinesio Tape

Well we'll see. I thought it'd feel tighter on my skin than it does. Can't really see how it can make that much of a difference to be honest. The bit up my quad feels quite tight, but the bits around my knee don't. It'll be home, stretch, roller & ice whatever happens :) ;)

    Foam Rolling - Running

I tend to get a potty mouth when using it on quads, ITB, TFL & glutes. You can feel it doing good though, so it's pain with a purpose :)

    Kinesio Tape

A mate of mine does sports massages and he's been on a taping course. He seems to be taping up people right left and centre to get the practice in. Anyway, I've been having a lot of knee trouble over the past 12 months and am starting to get to the end of my teather with it, so he came over...

    Foam Rolling - Running

I can't recommend foam rollering enough, especially to runners. It goes so much further than stretching or golf ball massage (I use a golf ball to loosen my quads sometimes) can. The more you do it, the more you feel the effect and the less painful it gets. Try rolling it up your ITB...

    Dry Rubs

I use a really nice one called Raz el Hanout. It's Moroccan mix and seriously good on chicken (either rubbed on and grilled or in a tagine) & fish amongst other things. There are loads of recipes for it, but this one is the one I use and it'll make up a jar of the stuff which will last for...

    Kitchen Knives

Couldn't agree more. I could happily chuck all but 2 of my knives, a ~20cm "vegetable chopper" and a pairing knife. I'd like a huge chef knife, but in all honesty I don't really need it. Another vote for Globals here. Fit my hand perfectly, feel well balanced and sharpen up beautifully too...
