Currently have an i3-8100 with a gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ddr4 Is it a good idea to upgrade to an i5-8400 for about £200? Or would it be better to just put the money towards a new gpu, 1070 probably. I mainly game and use vr, and after getting a 2nd monitor and attempting to run multiple programs...

So buy 1070 for £300, sell 1060 for £100, and get 1440p 144hz monitor for £300? The one thing holding me back from getting a 1440p monitor which i really have my eyes set on, is my cpu gpu combo, do you know of any issues with the 1070 and 8100 together?
