    MS-DOS_6.22

I've been getting into MS DOS although I'm no expert just yet I'm still learning the commands and what things do and how DOS works in general. I was always a RISC OS BBC Basic person so I never really dabbled much in MS-DOS. In the early days when I worked for a computer place, the only...

What retro things have you done today?

I found a bunch more of my old floppy disks which I thought were knackered considering they hadn't been used since 2003 and were all Acorn RISC OS formatted disks. The PC failed to re-format them but then I tried the 720 KB option and they began to format, some of them took a very long time to...

This is why people are losing respect for the police...

I think auditors do a fantastic job and in my opinion most police officers deserve to be baited up and caught out because they treat the general public like crap. They are corrupt and scummy. There is nothing more dangerous than corrupt police/people in high positions of power.

This is why people are losing respect for the police...

That sounds horrible... police often take sides depending on gender and age etc so men are at a disadvantage when they get false allegations made against them. I had an ex once and I was with her for two years, she drank heavily and she was very abusive towards me I wanted out of the...

I wouldn't want to take any chances to find out. Police tell lies.

Why you SHOULD be using Firefox

I've noticed that too. It can get annoying sometimes. I suspect its got something to do with copyright or something & Firefox are just trying to cover themselves I dunno.

Exactly and you can bet they will use and abuse what powers they can especially if they know they can get away with it.

    The bottle digging thread

I did magnet fishing for a little while but all's I found was modern tools and scrap metal. All the good stuff isn't magnetic like gold, brass silver copper. Its good for scrap metal people because they hit two birds with one stone cleaning out the waterways and making some money on the scrap...

This is why people are losing respect for the police...

If I didn't let them in they would have probably put my door in. I'm pretty sure they would have then I would be faced with a large bill replacing my front door. Not speaking to them would also make me look guilty and they'd arrest me making things a lot worse.

They were definitely recording because the red light was on and I asked them why they didn't identify themselves and that they should always identify themselves and inform the person that they are recording at the earliest opportunity rather than just coming in like they did and start making...

This is why people are losing respect for the police...

Last year I had dealings with the Met police. To cut it a long story short, I had fallen out with somebody which resulted in her making malicious false accusations about me... One morning there was a loud bang on my door, "ITS THE POLICE" they said quite loudly so I opened the door and they...

Disabled couple snooped on and accused of fraud by the DWP

People will be voting for more of it I expect. The most important thing is, getting the Tories out and that means voting Labour as they are the only party that stand a chance of wiping the Tories out. I'm seeing a lot of Liberal Democrat signs up outside peoples home... if people vote for that...

    The bottle digging thread

Me and a few of my mates got caught bottle digging once, somebody called the police and I remember crapping myself wondering what was going to happen but after asking us all some questions the police left us to get on with it. We filled in the hole we dug and tidied up leaving the place neat.

Display them, sell them, give others away... I'm mostly interested in Local bottles, I will display some, others I would pack away rapped in newspaper, if I have some common bottles or too many of something then I'd either donate some to charity or sell some. When you start digging bottles you...

    The bottle digging thread

There are quite a few Maidstone bottles made for the Maidstone brewery's. I'm guessing they were made in Maidstone... I'm also interested in Kent bottles in general as the area is local to me. There was a huge tip in Maidstone just a few years ago full of stunning London, Kent bottles among...

    The bottle digging thread

Some households had small tips at the ends of there gardens. Back in those days, there was no proper rubbish disposal so people would have a hole in the ground pre-dug and they'd empty there rubbish into and they would cover it up. Many woodlands and green spaces "recreational grounds" were used...

I found some 320kb 3.5" floppy disks but some were not formatted, I managed to format them to 720kb in Windows 95. I did see if I could format them to 1.44MB just out of curiosity but it was a no go. Its interesting how they formatted to 720kb considering there 320kb floppy disks.

If your floppy disk drive isn't working after a clean, there is still one last thing to try... you will need a bottle of IPA. Fill your bath tub of water and submerge the floppy drive in the water and give it some rigorous swooshes.... once done give it a dry off and submerge it in a tub of IPA...

I've been playing about with more CF Cards in MS DOS 6.22 and I have a 4GB CF Card but I will only be able to use 2047MB of that in MS DOS 6.22  so I thought I would have a closer look at FDISK I can create an extended partition and set the partition size but there is no letter...

They would be Codd bottles the ones with the marbles in the neck. Victorian children used to break them to get the marble out. Often you'd find a lot of codd bottle marbles in old tips. A lot of ink wells they are very common but some are valuable or a rare collector type. Generally Codd bottles...
