That would be crazy MT performance from the 9950X in CB24. For example my 7970X gets 3644 pts. So it would 82% of the power with half the number of cores.
Better to wait for more evidence.
Yes a Threadripper would alievate those lanes concerns but overkill though? You wouldn't buy say a 7960X for PCIE soundcard and WIFI support. Could save money using a USB soundcard instead and built in WIFI.
I'd agree with the price difference from mainstream desktop -> to HEDT/Workstation is...
I wonder if @Gibbo or anyone from OC could tell us what the availability of Threadripper 7000 and crucially the motherboards will be next week?
Will you have stock of the ASUS Pro WS TRX50 Sage or the ASRock TRX50 WS on launch day?
Hmm, I would like to know as well. I think there was a user on these forums that gets his hands on early Intel and AMD stuff, can't remember his name.
I hope the motherboards are released on time on the 21st Nov as well.
Have you been tempted @Pooh? :D
Didn't expect HEDT to make a return genuinely surprised. TRX50 is interesting in that it supports PRO and standard Threadripper chips
It looks like my 3960X can finely go into retirement. It's going to cost a bomb but there aren't any other options.
Just hope the mobos aren't too expensive...
I can't see the benefit of going from 3960X -> 3970X, the 3990X though, if you really love your MT and you can get it for a good price, why not.
For newer stuff, if you look at the latest Intel Xeon W3400 benchmarks done by Puget here for Cinebench...
To be honest you can get away with four cores if all you do is just surf and watch movies and play the odd games. I have a 1065G7 Surface Pro with 16GB and it's just fine for this.
But having a 24 core rig for 4 years now changes your workflow. You can do everything all at once, no longer one...
Honestly disappointed by the performance of Sapphire Rapids Xeons, but not surprised one bit. The signs were there. It's still overall behind Zen 3 TR Pro, and a 513W OC doesn't really change that.
I'll be keeping my Zen 2 TR for a while yet. I may have to bite the bullet and wait for Zen 4 TR...
Puget's review/preview shows overall the Zen 3 Threadripper PRO line is still better than Intel's Sapphire Rapids Xeon. To be honest this was expected, considering the all core clock speeds of the Xeons being limited, and these are server parts for desktop, with servers being AMD's strength. At...
These CPUs are mostly going to be out of range of creators who like to game. The platform cost is going to be very high (Motherboard, RAM) so it's not like the old days of the Core X series like 9980XE 10980XE. 3090s and 4090s are relative bargains.
It's good that Intel has finally got some workstation products from Sapphire Rapids. But as these are workstation rather than HEDT, I will have to wait until Zen 4 TR Pro to decide what platform to go for. Looks like these products will be competing Zen 3 TR Pro, so who knows by the time Zen 4...
Wait for Zen 4 3D. Looking at the Intel benchmarks for 13th Gen, even the 13900K can't beat the 5800X3D outright, but you expect the Zen 4 3D CPUs to do so.

Looks like for high MT workloads the 7950X will still beat the 13900K despite having less cores. Even the 7900X beats the 13700K.
