Impossible to damage a cpu with software overclocking, simply not possible unless you are extremely dim which I am sure you are not.

Have never had a problem in 25 years personally. Sold a 980ti on ebay myself last week and have another which I may keep for a future build for a family member. 2nd hand is perfectly fine if you are careful.

Get a 980ti 2nd hand off ebay, it runs 1440p no problem. Used to use one of them before changing, great cards. Can pick one up for £150 or less on fleabay.

I don't want to use adapters mate. Just want the motherboard ports. The 3970x and that motherboard above may be a better option. How does the 3970x compare with the 3950x? Price doesn't really matter, I will get the usage out of whichever I choose.
