    Direct Access - VirginMedia

Nope, we moved to Always On VPN which is considerably more complex but doesn't seem to suffer with the same issues with Virgin media and direct access.

    SAS 7.2K vs 10K

I'd say you are very unlikely to notice any difference in a file server, in fact, I'd be tempted to drop SAS and get the cheaper SATA drives for a fileserver. What controller are you using?

    Direct Access - VirginMedia

Exactly my thoughts. I dont think we'll be installing new internet connections for our users, we certainly dont have the funds for that :( I'll have another look tonight when i get back to see what I can get to. It's IP-HTTPS, I've tried it with force tunneling on and off, same result...

    Direct Access - VirginMedia

I've setup direct access with forced tunneling at work. Everything is working well, but the very latest Hub 3's from virgin media block it completely. Put it in modem mode and it works fine. So I've suggested that our users either move ISP (obviously not always possible - contracts etc.) or...

SSD Trim while HDD's in RAID

Not really, I understand that the performance gains will be next to zero, but the cost of a 2TB ssd was more than twice that of a single 1TB ssd when i wanted to buy. I have two 1TB ssd's stuck together in raid 0, not for performance but for capacity (just for my steam folder really).

BSOD after clone Windows 2012 R2

The problem is the hardware change, from a pentium to an i5 is a significant change.... Why don't you p2v the machine and run it as a vm? It'll be hardware agnostic then, and much easier to move around and change its storage mediums. Hyper-v in 2012r2 is all grown up now and its free :)

    Hyper-V and Processor architecture?

If you are using hyper-v replication then you wont need to set the CPU compatibility flag, as its technically a reboot when you fail over to the replica. If you are using fail over clustering you will need to set the compatibility flag to on as there is no reboot on migration and I think there...

    Brocade switches?

Its a coin toss, they are perfectly acceptable alternative to Cisco.

    RAID arrays of different sizes

I really wouldn't advise using raid 5 with such large drives. The rebuild time for a raid 5 array with 5tb disks is ridiculous, add in the huge performance degradation inherent with raid 5 rebuilds and its quickly becomes an inappropriate level of raid. Would it be possible to use larger disks...

    re-insert RAID 1 array

You can still partition for separation, and as far as i know the perc 5 can take at least 2tb drives, not too sure what the max array size is (its certainly more than 10tb, just make sure your firmware is the latest available - A09 after a quick search).

    re-insert RAID 1 array

Except you'd have significantly higher performance......

    re-insert RAID 1 array

It should work, but disk is so cheap these days I don't see the point in taking the risk, just buy some bigger drives and migrate the data?? Also, have you considered running a raid 10 array with those disks?

    Has anyone used Tegile?

Yeah, we have a Netapp now, I have costed a new Netapp against the likes of Nimble et al and they are in the same ball park but with much lower performance and much higher skill sets to manage and maintain. Looking at 40-50k inc, needs to have around 25tb of storage, we are using it for a...

    Has anyone used Tegile?

    * Must be resilient * Must be cost-effective * Must provide enough capacity for at least the next 24 months * Must be easy and cost effective to expand * Must provide 10G connectivity to ensure a min 4-year lifespan * Must provide enough raw performance to last for min 4...

    Has anyone used Tegile?

Just about to buy a new SAN and have looked at the usual suspects, but then heard about Tegile and had a deep dive session with them and on the surface it seems to tick all the boxes. Just wondering if anyone out there has any real world experience with them?

    Metronet?

We have a 100mb link with them, not had a single issue with them, its our 2nd line and we run all our IPT over it. They came and installed the line within 2 weeks of first inspection, which is a refreshing change from openreach time scales!
