    Anyone used data recovery companies?

    Try sticking it in an external USB drive case and connect it to another computer. I've used this method to get stuff from a borked drive.

    Cheap 15" LCD TV

    I'm after one - same spec. - for the kitchen. Seems like there's a big price hike from an analouge tuner to a digital tuner model. I've thought about getting an analouge one and fitting a freeview box, but i would prefer a all-in-one solution. Cheapest i've seen is a Toshiba 15" 15V330D with...

    DVD Authoring Software

    AVI2DVD works great for AVI's. It even creates an ISO file so you can use Imgburn to write to DVD.

    hdd failure, can i recover it?

    You could try putting it in an external hard drive case and connecting it to another windows box. It's worked for both myself (linux ext2 file system which was stopping my NAS box booting) and a mate of mine (XP main drive which wouldn't boot). It's worth a try before you start dismantling the...

    Restoring Vista boot manager

    Not sure if this will be any help-EasyBCD I've just used it to remove Vista boot options after a failed repair install. It does give options to add other OS's, but not sure it will do what you want.

    REplacement fan hooks for a motherboard. Available?

    Same thing happened to my IC7G, i think there are 4 mounting hooks, all i did was modify / bend the metal clip to use the other two hooks.

    New 7900GS or 2nd han x1950XTX

    I had my mind set on a 2nd hand X1900XTX, they're around the £220 to £235 mark, but never thought about 2x7900GS's. Are they hard to set up in SLI mode? Plus i'm replacing a Shuttle with a 9800Pro which sounds like a jet on afterburn when running UT2004 - are 2x Gfx cards going to be noisy?

    New 7900GS or 2nd han x1950XTX

    I'm building a new machine and wondered if a new 7900GS is a better buy than a 2nd hand x1950XTX.

    Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 or E6600 can't decide

    I was hoping there would be a thread on this. I'm in the same situation upgrading my son's computer - he plays UT2004 and will be using it for UT2007 when it comes out, so am i better of going for the 6300 and using the extra on a better GFX card. I'm not planning on overclocking ATM as i'm...

    Freeview On PC

    If you get a DVB-S card with a CAM that accepts a Sky card you can get the PPV channels, but you'll need to pay Sky for the extra card. AFAIK it works with Windows Media Center, but i'm not sure if it's officially supported. I'm not sure if i'm allowed to link to them , so just do a google for...

    C++

    You can but it's not proper error checking, it just converts a string to an integer and returns turns a zero if string can't be converted. I suppose you could have it so that if it returns zero you give an error message, as long as zero isn't within the specified range. TBH we had to learn how...

    Tech Things You Regret Buying?

    Every time i built a new rig, i'd install whichever version of windows was current, watch it boot up and open programmes 3x faster than my previous rig, then it would be exactly the same. The only upgrade i though was worth it was upgrading from 4 meg of ram to 8 at a cost of £100 (+VAT) so i...

    C++

    It's a couple of years since i did any C++, but i'd agree with assuming no error checking i.e whether the user has actually input an integer, as this can involve a lot more code, unless you can learn it off pat. I loved the challenge of C++, but error checking took a lot of the enjoyment out of...
