Rich, don't do to this newbie what you did to Otacon.
Britain needs some of its fine young men and women to survive psychologically intact. Think of the children!
I would give it a try with SETI right now. Within a few days, you'll be able to see whether your wu's crash repeatedly, and if not, whether they validate. Boinc gives you the ability to follow up on all results each computer returns, so you can see whether they keep failing. :)
The new...
Predictor has even shorter wu's, maybe the shortest. If you fail every 7 hours, you'd probably still validate at least 2/3 of the wu's you return.
Climate Prediction doesn't validate at all, as far as I know--so you might get full credit there, at the expense of potentially returning...
Welcome to the new folders, and to the new boincers. Nice to see more people donating their spare cycles to a good cause--team OcUK's world dominance ;)
(the science is important, too)
@NickK--are you on the OcUK team? If there is a team...
You might consider doing another project--Climate Prediction is a good one--as a backup. You can run it on the same computer, but give it a lower resource share (1% of BURP, say). That way, your computer is always doing something useful, but prefers to do BURP when work units are available. ;)
Great thread, Berserker.
Just want to remind anyone who's started Boinc and wants to be in the team, to join OcUK immediately, as any credits you get while off the team don't get transferred. ;)
@kicks66--I believe either boinc or f@h take precedence, and a single machine won't crunch...
