Car theft - is it out of control?

I get a weekly email from the Police about crime in my area - and its almost 100% keyless car theft of nice motors, with 1 theft every night on the surrounding 2 estates. This week however was the 1st time they've ever mentioned a wifi jammer was also used to disable the victims camera. The...

Insurance/car tax for brandnew car confusion

I'm buying a brand new Kia from the main dealer and I'll be getting it in a few weeks. I was reading their notes for buyers and it said that so the car can be taxed I should provide them with an original insurance note 3 days before collecting. This struck me as very odd as I've never had to do...

How negotiable are prices on cheap new cars ?

I'm looking at new cars around 14-15k, and the part-ex value of my current car is probably around 5k. How flexible are new car prices these days for the cheaper cars ? Is it just take the list price, or is there some room to negotiate ? I'd be paying for the balance on the car and not using...

Chain recommendation for garage use ?

I'm fitting a floor/wall anchor (sold secure diamond rated) in my garage and I'm after recommendations for a decent longish chain so I could attach 2 or 3 bikes to it. Other security for the garage is taken care of, I just need the chain at this point.

Angle grinder proof locks - what about the bike stand ?

I am thinking of putting a heavy duty eye bolt anchored in the concrete in my garage for locking my bike to. But its also the same garage with my angle grinder, oscilating tool with carbide blades (cuts stainless steel bolts great !), and recipricating saw with metal cutting blades :D

    Spec me a folding ebike

I've just bought the UK made estarli 20.7 folding electric bike. Only been out a few times but seems decent so far, and they have a good reputation for support. The price is very competitive too. https://www.estarli.co.uk/products/e20?variant=37335872012482 I've emailed them a couple of times...

Angle grinder proof locks - what about the bike stand ?

I've watched some videos about the relatively new angle grinder resistant bike locks, and I'll likely buy one. But it did occur to me to wonder how many bike racks or railing that are locked to are also angle grinder proof/resistant ? Most seem to be a bit of hollow mild steel tube. Can you...

Anyone seeing car insurance pricing increases?

My renewal was a 19% increase - full no-claims for 20+ years etc. Shopped around and got mutliple quotes for almost 50% less of the original annual amount. Some insurers just take the ****. If they hadn't got greedy and kept it under 10% I'd probably have renewed without thinking about it.

A TikTok influencer is my new neighbour. *Heavy Sigh*

And how many of that 97k are bought from a boosting service ? at least 95k of them I'd bet !

    D-Day

My Grandad was there - he'd already fought all through North Africa, and one of his stories was that experienced troops like him weren't interested in D-day. They'd done their share and it was someone else's turn. But they were thrown in again and again as 'blooded' troops who could get the job...

Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

Anyone noticed any brandname products now having a different cheaper recipe when sold in Tesco compared to other supermarkets ? The brandname fresh soup 'Yorkshire Provender Roast Chicken Soup With Traditional Vegetables' has gone from being REALLY good to utterly awful. In Tesco they've shrunk...

    Bournemouth Deaths

Scum behaviour from the 'great british public' towards those doing CPR didn't help. Abusing the medics and getting video for tiktok. It common for family members to get abusive/physical as they are emotionally charged, but bystanders doing it for their own entertainment is sickening.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Lab leaks certainly do happen - we have had 2 significant ones in the UK in living memory. After smallpox was successfully wiped out in the wild there was one more death - In the UK from a lab leak. The 2007 foot-and-mouth outbreak in the UK was caused by..a lab leak. If it can happen here...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

After avoiding covid for all this time I finally got it last week. Started feeling rough on Friday (but testing negative), I've now tested positive for the last 5 days. Symptoms are a bit better now but I've got no energy reserves. Will be interesting to guess how many more days I'll be testing...

Do prescription glasses get made wrong ?

I had an eye-test and got a new set of glasses as the old ones were a bit bent from being sat on. The new prescription was very similar to the old one, and the new glasses are a similar size frame/lenses. With the new ones I can't look down and read a mobile phone, but if I hold it at the same...

Public emergency alerts to be sent to all UK mobile phones

I got the alert at 09:30 Monday morning ! Phone had been turned off since Friday and I turned it on at 09:00 Monday. As far as I'm aware this 100% should not have alerted.

Public emergency alerts to be sent to all UK mobile phones

I got the alert, but the last line wasn't visible and I couldn't scroll to display it. The message ended for me with 'This is a test. You do'.

    The disappearance of Nicola Bulley

If she weighed 20 stone or was a minority then the story would never have even made the news, and certainly not day after day.

Royal Mail - how long are the delays ?

It certainly looks like the post is processing new mail rather than oldest first. The DVLA did the same during covid - old stuff was stacked at the back and never got processed as there was always new cages of mail literally blocking access to the older mail.
