Given that the original 3070 launch was supposed to be on the 15th, it wouldn't surprise me if sea freight arrives to distribution centres in the next week. Potentially then, that could be the first "huge" restock of 3080s since launch and would coincide with what we've heard re availability...
It's gotten positive reviews all around to be fair. If the TUF didn't exist it would probably be the best of the bunch available to buy right now. However MSI did their best to **** their customers off by offering a worse cooler than an "MSRP" model (TUF) and cutting costs with the plastic+...
Looks like that guy messed something up with his shunt mod. 2005 MHz core clock locked @ 500W is a joke. If you look at techpowerup's reviews the MSI Trio does 2000 MHz average on 350W, the TUF 1972 on 370W. Guru3d: MSI TRIO - 2025MHz, TUF - 2000MHz.
As someone who put an order in at 14:14 and didn't get in on the first batch, here are some tips I've gathered over the last 24 hours, and from previous launches, for anyone still waiting:
If you ordered around this time or later during the day, it is 100% likely that your order status won't...
Turing launch only failed because it was a price hike with minimal performance gain per price point. Unfortunately, the Super refresh a year later proved that people are ok with the increased pricing as long as there is a tangible performance uplift, as later gaming revenues reached mining boom...
This monitor (the flat IPS) does not have any flickering with adaptive sync. The curved version does and it is noticeable to some people, due to its VA technology.
I got one of the first units on sale in the UK (my review is on page 4 of this thread), am using a Vega 64 while waiting for next...
Hopefully later batches of this will iron out all the issues. I wouldn't even mind paying an extra £50 if it means they have flawless firmware and do better QC, it would still be great value. I've had mine for about 7 weeks now and it's running great, but I did keep my old ultrawide in iiyama's...
If the latest rumour is to be believed, and Igor has very good sources, I don't see the upcoming cards being cheaper than Turing.
If you look at the first two quarters after Turing's launch the 20-series definitely flopped. However, the super refresh bringing gaming revenue to pre-mining boom...
It's nearly impossible to tell the difference between 8bit + dithering and 10bit with the human eye. Unless you're watching media specifically made to show those differences with back to back comparisons.
The colours of this monitor are definitely good enough for sRGB multimedia and gaming...
No updates since mate.
With regards to the colour depth, I'm pretty sure it's 8bit + FRC, since the spec page only mentions 16.7m colours. Can't remember how it is on Nvidia, but the AMD driver reports 6bit + FRC as 8bit and 8bit + FRC as 10bit.
I heard back from iiyama tech support on the wake from standby issues.
Good news: they're aware it's a widespread problem, seem to think it might be fixable via software. Bad news: what they suggested didn't work for me, I'll post about it anyway maybe it helps one of you.
What they suggested...
It's like that with every other luxury good. There is a big diminishing return on value for money when you go for the top of the product stack. E.g. the 2080Ti costing 50% more than the 2080S for only 16% extra performance.
The wake from standby issue seems reasonably common across some monitors - just looking at this thread, for example: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/discover/233556/graphical-glitch-on-side-of-screen-with-gsync-monitor/
Doesn't sound like it's fixable if it's been going on for so...
Mine was a touch too warm. I'm running Red at 98, Green at 99 and Blue at 100 on 25 brightness and 50 contrast. A site I like to use for calibration is: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
If you aren't doing colour critical work then it doesn't matter if the image is accurate. Only that you're happy...
After reading about the waking up from sleep glitches and experiencing it myself I decided to look into it more. I set my monitor standby activation time to 1 minute and got testing.
Turned GPU scaling on and woke the display up 30 times. Got the half screen artifacting glitch once on try 4 and...
I had that happen to me once yesterday, first time in a week, I don't believe it's GPU driver related as I'm on a Vega 64. Whoever gets it next should just take a screenshot and send it to iiyama support, see what they say. Might be something which needs a firmware update.
My old monitor's the 29WK600
- contrast is about the same to be honest. On both monitors the blacks look black with the lights on and grey with the lights off
- like I said, for me personally it's not a problem. Colours look better on the iiyama, but my old monitor wasn't a native 8bit display...
